For #AMS2026 - John and @pamknox.bsky.social report that Elevator #14 at the headquarters Hilton should be avoided at all costs. They had to be freed from it by Houston Fire Dept after it got stuck, and the FD told them it happens regularly with that elevator.

Another of my recent images and a rare backyard capture, this is ~100hrs on the Veil Nebula complex, a large supernova remnant in the constellation Cygnus

Just trying to simulate a tornado but the ring of turbulence I added turned out to be the one ring of power, and I have captured the direct attention of Sauron himself.

Nice! I've never tried nor made a bochet, but I've read a lot about them and heard about this recipe and so I figured I'd charge head first into trying to make it. Hopefully it turns out as well as I'm hoping! It's a fun hobby, but with any hobby, gets more expensive the more you learn about it.

Thanks! It will probably get lighter if anything. The second picture is deceiving since the peaches are floating up top, but I'm guessing the final color will be a deep amber, a little between the darkest and second darkest colors on the plate.

Still working on it, trying to get turbulence handled well. I'll hopefully be presenting at the AMS annual meeting and maybe will try to throw some pretty animations on here before that!

If it entices you: the essay prominently features a bonkers housing nonprofit called "Aspiring Anew Generation" that was almost entirely generated by ChatGPT and, shortly after their presentation at the OKC City Council (who voted to approve their involvement) was suspended on suspicion of fraud.
A year ago, I heard that Oklahoma City had approved a plan to build Legends Tower, the tallest skyscraper in the entire Western hemisphere. Why were we building the Tower of Babel in the Heartland? I decided to investigate. This essay is the result. (gift link) thepickup.com/whats-so-wro...
