The mainline game tells a story, and let's you get to know everyone. The sidegame likely won't be as fun without it. So my efforts won't be wasted.

I had the PC version when it came out, and the little chocobo sidegame that it came with would get you materials that you otherwise couldnt get at most points in the game

It's like a high risk Telltales game like close to write loves Among us than anything. In fact same team is making the sequel. Has a couple of Critical role voice actors, it was the sidegame they played on Halloween.

(Dis)honourable mention to Hiveswap, which had a good first act but an absolutely terrible second act that, among other things, left out some characters featured in promo material, went nowhere narratively, and was so bad that not only were all future acts cancelled, but so was the entire sidegame.
