#Carcentric
There needs to be a mentality shift. Operating a vehicle that can harm and injure is a privilege that many drivers don’t understand as such. #Carcentric culture needs to die…
The reason why cyclists and pedestrians push back against these types of campaigns is not because we think visibility is bad (I wear hig-viz!), but because it's victim blaming that diverts attention from the real issues: dangerous drivers and poor infrastructure
“Where the built environment separates human skin and bone from lorries, cars, and buses, there is no need for our frantic striving to make fragile bodies hyper-visible”

Carcentric politicians should just STFU! Not everyone drives so stop trying to force them to by making roads unsafe for those not driving.

What a load of ableist Carcentric bollocks!! Typical #motonormativity crap to justify more driving on the roads & INCREASE pollution in the air & on our roads.

Unpopular opinion for some but it doesn’t help that it’s a carcentric hell scape with very little in the way of sidewalk accessible shops that are worth making the trip downtown for.

My beloved Northside ruined by carcentric culture. I hate it so much.

I fucking hate pedestrian-hostile American suburban carcentric hell so much

Same is true of a driving licence.
I know plenty who don't or can't drive & rely on public transport.
It's a carcentric approach to say that a driving licence is necessary. If it is then society needs to be serious with a threat to revoke & ppl need to take that seriously. Many currently don't

Kamala Harris, my emotional support public figure, hates carcentric suburbia and loves simple, broadly targeted, and effective social support & industrial incentive programs and I will challenge anyone who says otherwise to a dual

Sorry this is carcentric bollocks! I don't drive & a mobility disability & I ADAPTED to have a job, a life & the ability to get around! It this sort of bollocks that helps keep our roads dangerous for those who don't/can't drive by allowing drivers who use their motor vehicles as WEAPONS to drive! 🤬
Following today’s sentencing of Paul Doyle, several people have understandably queried why he was not banned from driving for life.

It’s a good question, and one I attempted to grapple with in #NothingButTheTruth in the context of repeat driving offenders.

if there's one conversation I know I'm going to steer clear of, it's the carcentric vs bike people one.
I don't have a fetish for getting in arguments. No thanks.

Other forms of travel require far less space then cars, as illustrated by these temporary bike racks

A family of four on four bikes needs considerably less parking space than if they all took 1 car. Having cars as the default requires excess pavement everywhere

This funding crisis will endanger Oregonians this winter, and republicans choose to do this

Roads cost money to build and maintain, and our current system does not balance the cost. ODOT needs to stop spending all the money on highway expansions

Less than a week after a Republican-led campaign put new money for state roads on ice, lawmakers are in a partisan squabble over how to fund winter road maintenance throughout Oregon.
With new road funding suspended, Oregon lawmakers spar over winter maintenance
Republicans who have blocked new tax revenues now argue emergency funds might be needed.

And what are we building? Sprawl which increases the costs of everything for the city --- water and sewer lines have to go further, garbage trucks need to go further, more road to maintain, more snow removal, etc. #CarCentric

Carcentric view forgets safety gained by folks on bikes.
On the one hand, banning right on red is a proven way to save lives and reduce injuries. On the other hand, drivers are delayed by a few seconds. So it’s impossible to say if it’s good or not.
New column: D.C. should again give the green light to right turn on red

Went there 25yrs ago, loved the place. Unfortunately no cycling as I wasn't able to back then. But did enjoy the pool where I was able to walk stick free in the water. And experienced my 1st horse ride which was in Sherwood Forest. But we experienced the carcentric attitude of the place too as we

Alas our Homebase was carcentric, rather use the cycle parking to sell their promotional goods & dumping of trolleys. Wasn't sorry to see it close TBH as it wasn't the Homebase I used to shop at elsewhere. Definitely not have an eCargo rental.

We hope whoever takes over from Lou Haigh as transport secretary continues her focus on integrated transport and active travel. She has been a breath of fresh air on these issues and has helped move the debate on from a carcentric approach.
