Imagine being this kind of grumpy lol.

I guess NYC doesn’t have a Great Highway to be mad about so they gotta pick something.

Anyways, buy these stickers. 🙃
We wonder if the person who keeps painting over our stickers (and only our stickers, for some reason) understands that every time we post a pic like this we sell at least three more packs of stickers.

So, um, thanks, sticker painting guy!

Thing is: this should have been obvious BEFORE regulators greenlit Waymo.

Having business be the tail that wags the dog of government--as neoliberal ideology would have it--simply privatizes gains and sticks ordinary people with the costs of being corporate guinea pigs.
Autonomous vehicles that are unable to adapt to emergencies present a risk to our public safety. With such vehicles being considered for deployment in the East Bay, more must first be done to ensure they will operate safely when the unexpected happens.

Step 1: Manhattan.
Step 2: Everywhere else.
Year 1 data on congestion pricing in Manhattan…

* Vehicle traffic: -11%
* Foot traffic: +3.4%
* Storefront vacancy: -0.9%
* Pollution: -22%
* Revenue for mass transit: $548M

So YES this has been a huge success.

We can narrow our roads. About 45 minutes ago on Lexington, I was waiting to cross the street and had one car stop for me. One car in the other lane blew right past the stopped car, and the one after had to stop short.

Drivers do not pay attention to others. We need better streets.
Pedestrians are getting struck by automobiles 3x a week in Saint Paul. It is showcase of how the city needs to place greater focus on spending available funds on its bike/pedestrian infrastructure.

The plans exist. The funds exist. The desire exists.

This is a key point. I wish we didn't have to pander to them so much, but sometimes the best way to sell a policy like congestion pricing or building bike lanes is to explain to drivers what's in it for them.
The point I wish got emphasized more is that the big winners from congestion pricing are *people who urgently need to drive*. Because they are ones that travel times really matter for. I always thought that instead of congestion pricing it should be called "free streets" - free from other cars.
this is incredible stuff. most state DOTs would spend tens of billions on highway expansions to try and see numbers like this (that wouldn’t even pan out anyway thanks to induced demand lol)

Life After Cars is the best of a spate of anti-car jeremiads published this year. The @thewaroncars.bsky.social crew has produced a book that's both thorough and accessible.

(Below, I spoke with @brooklynspoke.bsky.social & @sgoodyear.bsky.social about the rise of car-skeptic activism.)
What Comes After the ‘War on Cars’?
Podcast hosts Doug Gordon and Sarah Goodyear deliver a book-length takedown of the automobile — and a plea to stop centering cities around driving.

People want tiny basic electric cars. Automakers haven't responded, and safety regulations make it difficult, so they're buying golf carts.
Golf carts are puttering their way toward becoming a legit transport mode.

This year, Cleveland, Corpus Christi, and South Carolina officially legalized them on local streets. Major media outlets like the Wall Street Journal and CBS News have covered their soaring popularity (esp in suburbs).
Why one Michigan town is regulating its golf cart boom
St. Johns, Michigan, is one of more than two dozen communities in the state to pass ordinances regulating golf carts on public roads.
