Today — because you called and rallied and never stopped pushing — Governor Hochul is advancing congestion pricing.

We are one step closer to cleaner air, safer streets, faster buses, accessible subways & a more resilient future.

Today wouldn't have been possible without you.
Congestion Pricing is Moving Forward

Now that our coalition is a full partner at the table, we look forward to working with Governor Hochul and NYS DOT on a more just, sustainable vision of the corridor.

We won't settle for any plan that further burdens the South Bronx.

Join us on Tuesday, October 21 to talk about next steps:
Stop the Cross Bronx Expansion Community Meeting and Q&A · Transportation Alternatives

No new highways! This is a huge victory for our movement.

This structure would have increased toxic emissions for nearly 64,000 residents living along the project area. The South Bronx will have healthier air, thanks to your advocacy!

But the fight isn't over...

NEW: The NY State Dept. of Transportation announced that it would not build a "traffic diversion" structure — essentially a highway expansion, according to critics — when it repairs an elevated section of the Cross Bronx Expressway. buff.ly/hV6ujZf

The state Department of Transportation will not build a "traffic diversion" structure next to the Cross Bronx Expressway — a highway expansion project that Streetsblog exposed.

"There are only weeks left before it gets too cold for DOT to change lane markings, Jacobi added, calling on the agency to study its brushwork.

'It’s not too late, they can make this right in the next couple of weeks,' the advocate said."

"'It’s huge, it was fought for for 20 years, it took a lot of advocacy to get,' said Emily Jacobi, the Manhattan organizer for Transportation Alternatives. 'DOT really missed an opportunity to show that they care about the necessary safety features of this project...'"

The Queensboro Bridge finally has separate paths for cyclists and pedestrians — but the long-overdue upgrade still falls short of its full potential because the city has failed to install proper markings five months after the new footpath opened.

Unfortunately, the limitations of the current program mean far too few restaurants and neighborhoods can benefit.

A new and restored program will bring outdoor dining to new heights across NYC. It's time to make outdoor dining year-round and accessible so everyone can enjoy it.

Outdoor dining is a delightful quality of life improvement in neighborhoods across the city — saving over 100,000 jobs during the pandemic and still serving New Yorkers today!

We introduced a bill to restore year-round open dining and make it easier for restaraunts.

Outdoor dining was a silver lining of the pandemic, and New Yorkers want it back. We can simplify the process for restaurants to secure permits and give us more places to dine together.

Our office released a new study highlighting rampant illegal parking across Downtown Brooklyn. Vehicles block sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes & loading zones - making it more dangerous for New Yorkers to get around the neighborhood.

We called for this in our Seven Steps report back in 2021! We're thrilled it's becoming a reality.

When it comes to vehicle safety, New York City is leading the way! All new vehicles in the City's fleet will be equipped with speed limiting technology.

Now Albany needs to follow NYC's example and use this technology to save lives — by passing the Stop Super Speeders bill.

This weekend we debuted our Tiny Super Sidewalk on Canal Street!

Canal is one of the most dangerous streets in Manhattan, and there's not enough space for the huge number of pedestrians. But both of these problems can be solved by extending the sidewalks!

46 states already require daylighting to keep intersections safe.

New York State does, too — but New York City exempts itself. It’s time to close that loophole.

@cmjuliewon.bsky.social's Intro 1138 would allow pedestrians and drivers to clearly see each other at intersections.

Every traffic death is avoidable if City Hall prioritizes street safety infrastructure *before* New Yorkers are killed, not just after.

Lori was killed by a driver while crossing the street — a loss that galvanized the neighborhood to demand greater safety. Thanks to the persistent advocacy of Robin Felsher, this intersection now features a seven-second LPI, giving people on foot a head start.

We were honored to join West Village community members, CM @ebottcher.bsky.social, CB2, and Families for Safe Streets on Friday to commemorate the second anniversary of Lori Kleinman’s passing and to celebrate the installation of a leading pedestrian interval (LPI) at 10th and Greenwich.

New Yorkers are craving secure bike parking: this one small station has had 2,000 unique users in just two years!

More of these units — and larger facilities — will mean that more New Yorkers will have the peace of mind to try biking, without having to worry about theft.

Last month we celebrated the two year anniversary of Oonee Hudson Square with local BID.

Personally, on this journey I am most proud of the way that NYC communities have embraced our initial bike parking stations-- hard 2 believe that ppl were once skeptical bc they were afraid of blowback.

How can you trust an agency that has repeatedly done this mayor’s bidding? Over and over, Adams’ DOT has put New Yorkers at risk — because the mayor tells them to.

From Bedford to Fordham to Ashland to McGuinness, the message is clear: at Eric Adams’ DOT, safety is for sale.
transalt.org
This agency is entrusted with keeping you safe on the streets of our city.

But Eric Adams’ DOT hasn’t been taking that responsibility seriously. They’ve been doing whatever our corrupt mayor asks, no matter the risk.
transalt.org
When beloved teacher Matthew Jenson was killed by a hit-and-run driver on McGuiness Boulevard, DOT promised safety fixes for the deadly corridor.

Then special interests stepped in, and the plan was gutted. Mayor Adams’ top aide Ingrid Lewis-Martin is now facing bribery charges.
transalt.org
Ashland Place was supposed to be a world-class protected bike lane, but Adams’ DOT still hasn’t finished the job — a gap in the middle puts New Yorkers at risk.

Every elected official along the corridor signed a letter in support of the original project — ignored by Adams’ DOT.
transalt.org
Fordham Road up in the Bronx is the second most dangerous road for pedestrians in all of New York City — but Adams’ DOT is still blocking a busway that would protect pedestrians and speed up the slowest buses in the nation.

Safety first? More like special interests first.

Mayor Adams ordered DOT to rip up the Bedford Avenue safety project just months after installing it, putting New Yorkers in danger for political reasons.

On the northernmost four blocks, injuries nearly halved thanks to the safety improvements. Adams’ DOT ripped them up anyway.

Now that Eric Adams’ DOT is fearmongering about another critical safety policy, let’s take a look at their alarming record when it comes to keeping New Yorkers safe on our streets:
