My son was a teenager when he started this account in school. I didn’t want it to die on Twitter, so I kept it going a little, now bringing it over. There are other voices that say it better. At the time those voices were very few. So glad to see this. #ProtectNight
I saw the night sky last week. There was a little bit of light pollution, but not much. Here is a photo of the Milky Way.

Have you ever seen the night sky in a place without any light pollution?

How did it make you feel?

camped out in a car away from light pollution for once and remembered stars exist
Hi friends, I don’t post here much. I just had to close up everything on the bird account and this is one of the accounts that I had. I hope in 2025 you will commit to fight for dark nights. It is the simplest way to rewild your surroundings by making them dark.

Hey @NWF Since you run the backyard wildlife habitat program, will you please consider adding, as one of your criteria, Shelter from artificial light at night #ALAN? There is abundant research on the negatives of artificial light at night to #bees #moths #Bats and #birds.
Alt text: Conclusion:
Artificial light at night is significantly correlated for all forms of cancer as well as lung, breast, colorectal, and prostate cancers individually. Immediate measures should be taken to limit artificial light at night in the main cities around the world & also inside houses.

Found a wonderfully (bad) example of LEDs that reveal the hidden blue light that lurks in them 💡

We can’t manufacture inherently white LEDs, so most are blue chips coated in phosphorus to create a ‘white’ light.

(There are other ways to do it, but this is most common)

Blue light = Bad News

The wave length in blue lights disrupts natural patterns, like human circadian rhythms and the production of hormones. The same is true to our wildlife.

This ‘white’ street light’s chip has degraded, meaning the phosphorous has gone, revealing the true blue at its core.

An example of a shield (solid barrier that lets no light escape) on a light that shields it in 3 different directions, so it can only shine on the school’s property. #NoPrisonLightZone
This shield is an example of recognizing the seriousness of artificial light at night. We should shield it in all directions so it only spills where it is needed: @SeaPubSchools (Also, it is mostly off, except for school events in the evening.). #ProtectNight #EndLightPollution
Alt Text From the archives-four examples of fully-shielded lights. You never see the source of the light from above a plane, of where the light is mounted. I also advocate to try to mount lights as low as you can for the purpose.
Why spill light and create this harmful pollution that ends up in sensitive chinook habitat ? You can light to #ProtectNight - shield all light - force it to only spill down, on walkways, or sidewalks. Do not let light-pollution travel for miles unchecked.

Oh I forgot to add it turns on when you get within 10 feet and turned off when I retreated. (Found on a walk with my dogs)

Oh the very worst choice. A graveyard for pollinators.
