Native habitat restorer, darksky advocate. No Daylight Savings Time. Got Dark Skies? Show me?
I love dark skies but I also love birds and dogs so I mostly hang out @kodaeris or @thebirdsnest also on BlueSky
I saw the night sky last week. There was a little bit of light pollution, but not much. Here is a photo of the Milky Way.

My son was a teenager when he started this account in school. I didn’t want it to die on Twitter, so I kept it going a little, now bringing it over. There are other voices that say it better. At the time those voices were very few. So glad to see this. #ProtectNight

Photos are mine mostly taken in my Seattle neighborhood unless I post a source or re-post someone else’s photo. (This artwork was bought and created for my yard. I will post the Esty account next.)

Did you know, these mosquito-eaters are drawn to light at night, and it disrupts them. Having dark habitat makes sure they can do their day job. plantersplace.com/wild-life-ga....

Night should be dark.

#Pollinators need dark nights.

If you must use outdoor decorative lights please turn them off when you go to sleep, or maybe by 9 p.m.

Hello, I just can’t leave this acct up at twit so migrating ove. #LightPollution is pollution when you shine it, be aware of where it goes. Does it shine across the street and cause your neighbor’s to trip? Does it shine up into the clouds and contribute to sky glow?
Keep it on your property.

I have dogs too, these are my two Koda and Eris. They take up 99.9999% of my time.

#Halloween used to be dark. It used to be a safe way to feel fear. Do you dare go up to that creepy house? Now people cover their houses in lights so you can see there plastic cheap home depot skeletons & string lights.
Bring back night. Bring back the dark. Bring back scary.

I was lucky enough to visit a friend in the San Juans and this is what my standard iPhone on standard settings captured. Just a ferry ride and 1.5 hour drive from Seattle.
I hope you got to really see the #NightSky at least once this year. Let’s protect this. #ProtectNight

Looking at my Urban front yard at night. Lights out for bird migration.

If you would feel bad about spraying paint all over your neighbors yard, windows and house, than don’t spill your lights on their property either. #LightAtNightIsPollution

Unnecessary light at night pollinator blight.
November 24, 2024 at 6:30 PM
My neighbors put up the brightest outdoor lights and it looks like they are going to be on all night. #Lightpollution as yard decor is so frustrating because it doesn't stop at the property line. My yard, which I try hard to keep dark for birds is lit up like it's 3 p.m. 😞

This house has taken away all the available habitat for birds Where will they sleep at night???….. Light pollution kills.
November 24, 2024 at 6:37 PM
Again tonight. #LightBeam #Seattle

so much more light pollution every month it increases exponentially. 😞

See the sign stating “Birds not welcome to sleep or nest in our tree”?

The “sign” is the uplighting.

If we appreciated Bats, our yards, parks, cities would be dark, or at least we would minimize light at night to light only what is necessary and leave the majority of night dark for Bats and Wildlife.

No right to night here. The poor homes across the street from this.
Unnecessary
Unneighborly
Ugly

I’m a #DarkNight advocate. Night should be dark, very dark. Because light at night harms so much:
aquatic insects >native fish>birds>moths>bats>sea turtles>frogs> seabirds, like terns and puffins> and song birds> human health> obesity >diabetes >breast cancer>mental illness.
