The Supreme Court seems likely to weaken, if not strike down, Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. Such a ruling could also upend the balance in local governments all over the country, from county councils to school boards.

The Supreme Court may further erode the Voting Rights Act in an upcoming decision. Beyond affecting Congress, that would reverberate across local governments nationwide.

Republicans will try to blame this on Kelly et al but the reality is that the Guard is not a law enforcement body and using them as one would inevitably lead to this

one thing to remember about the Guard deployment in DC is that they aren’t actually doing anything beyond picking up trash and strolling around the touristy areas, they could all go home tomorrow and it wouldn’t materially effect the city

I think that it is bad that the National Guard is deployed in a city for absolutely no reason and today's tragedy could be easily avoided by not deploying the guard for made-up reasons.
