I see where this position comes from, but the thing is that J6 was for all its severity a TV event that you could ignore if you wanted to. You cannot occupy greenland with just some SOF. Reserves will get called up, markets will shit etc. far more ‘happening to me’ potential.
More than an attempted coup, where a mob tried to seize Congress on live television did? There's not going to be an implosion about anything. It's either a slow slide towards oblivion where everything gets incrementally worse as people try to live normally, or a slow grind in the opposite direction.
i feel like if the president actually went through with invading greenland, it would implode America

Here's the thing: outstate Minnesota outside of the handful of other cities is demonic and should be Vendee'ed.
Truly incredible stuff from the New York Times as always.

An American city is under siege by the federal government so naturally we need to talk to a bunch of rural racists who don’t live in that city and view themselves as superior

While I’m sure there are instances of MPD (illegally) cooperating with ICE, they have basically not interfered at all with observers, and it’s rare enough that if we realize a suspicious vehicle is local police we just ignore it.

Observers are also listening to police radio chatter and they aren’t, let’s say, being friendly about the feds. You can be the coppiest cop alive and not appreciate a barely-trained, heavily armed rabble bombing the city with tear gas and causing unrelenting fear and chaos.
i really think this is gonna be a big ol' schism - my rr spotted undercover cops grouping up and went to observe, first thing one of them said to me was 'we are NOT with immigration.' an extremely distrustful and alert populace is also bad for genuine police work and that WILL have consequences

Abject failure by major Maine legacy outlets -- referring blandly to what Trump/ICE have in store as "immigration enforcement."

Closing your eyes, plugging your ears and bowing down to authority is not "objectivity." It's pathetic and it's a choice. #MEpolitics

Now let's see what our apolitical military does

The Insurrection Act isn’t magic.

All deployments of repressive Trumpist forces are based on lies. Why assume he’s holding back due to lack of factual basis?

Possible he likes the looming threat more, wary of how the military responds, that it won’t end protests, and his fans will be disappointed.

Last January it was -14 (42-56). Right now it's -19 (40-59). That's a 5 point swing, or a drop of a little more than 33%. He's nearing 60% disapproval in a country that hasn't had a popular vote winner garner more than 53% of the vote since Regan's second election 42 years ago

Stop spreading misinformation. This is malpractice.
This is why you wear eye protection to these things, folks! At least make them knock your glasses off before they casually blind you.

To the people out of state who keep saying “why won’t the local cops stop ICE” you need to understand that ICE is overwhelmingly the largest force on the ground in Minneapolis. They outnumber Minneapolis cops four to one. They’re more likely to stop the cops than the other way around

Yes: we are essentially tanking the DHS paramilitary army for the rest of America right now. They have to break us because they’re pulling men out of everywhere else for this surge, and if it fails, what then? But they will not break us.
There is no way they can sustain this without all their other areas losing capacity.

After ICE agents shot people in Minneapolis tonight, a crowd faced them down and eventually chased them away, despite federal mercenaries and police shooting a tremendous amount of tear gas.

Attempted intimidation.

It's also a substantial share of ICE forces.

Ask average Americans in 2024 which states have the largest immigration problem and very few would have said Minnesota. Even Trump and his allies have mostly talked about the southern US border.
