As always, this sort of tone policing and pearl clutching about civility have always been and will always be a form of social means testing. You can care, but by golly don't care too much. Don't be so affected that you say a naughty nono word or have feelings of anger, fear, or indignation.

Really glad I went out tonight. Instead of feeling lonely, I got to meet and chat with some cute people. I got a New Years kiss from a cute girl, too, which was wonderful. Overall, a fantastic start to this new year.

Every day the urge to write an X-Men fanfiction that does that Evolution-style combining of lots of plot threads and including a focus on some of the younger mutants just gets stronger and stronger, including legitimately fucking with my sleep.
