Old dad, fortunate husband, nonprofit marketeer, jaywalker, viajero, Chicagoan by way of many places.
Ah, when you have family from out of town visiting you in Chicago for a few days, you had a plan to take them downtown, and they packed for 50-degree weather.

I know people are going to revel in the schadenfreude here, but this is really just an admission—given how close the House is split—that they’re just mad it didn’t work. Fewer than a dozen House GOPers could change America tomorrow. That they’re not proves this is just about losing, not principles.
PUNCHBOWL: “.. GOP members messaged us over the weekend saying that they, too, are considering retiring in the middle of the term. Here’s one particularly exercised senior House Republican:

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 5: Vito Marcantonio

There are many who dismiss our vision for New York as impossible. To them, I say we need look only to our past for proof of how we can shape the future.

Tomorrow is Election Day. And this is the final Until It's Done of our campaign.

Although she’s Spanish, my wife was was born in Germany. In the 70s, her parents had to go there to find work. On this 50th anniversary of Franco’s death, EL PAÍS has a great article about how the country has transformed since 1975. Unfortunately it’s paywalled so I can only share screenshots. 1/3

We took on the case of a couple who had been detained during their green card interview. This was a couple who had been married for decades and never spent a single night apart. After being detained, they were immediately separated and sent to 2 different detention centers.
Thousands and thousands of people are in this situation; giving up their cases and accepting deportation because they can't bear being in jail any longer.

In many ways, that is a major point of detention.
Don Lupe shared that one detained man who volunteered to be deported due to unbearable conditions had to wait months.

“This is a business and it is all about money,” Don Lupe said. “There are a lot of things that are inhumane. It is more beneficial for [the business] for him to be in prison.”

Here’s a thread on how an attempt on Venezuelan oil could go horribly wrong. I watched it happen in Colombia for years. Now add cheap drone technology to the mix & that oil infrastructure becomes EXTREMELY vulnerable to sabotage. Refineries & storage tanks weren’t designed to withstand attacks.💥💥🔥🔥
Colombian guerrillas would just drive along the road & shoot holes into the pipeline. They would then start a huge blaze with a flare. It was extremely destructive to the environment & poisoned streams. The pipelines had to parallel the road for servicing reasons, so it was impossible to protect. 3/

Cut-through driver sailed through the stop sign on our street that every driver blows. He was four feet from me and my six-year-old, we were halfway across the street. Looked at us as he sailed by. Told my son that people who do that should lose the privilege of driving for the rest of their lives.

This is the facility that I and many others have been protesting. We’ve been hit, thrown, gassed, and shot with pepper bullets but none of that holds a candle to what is being done to people *in* the actual facility.

Read this thread. Don’t look away. Keep your eyes and the pressure on Broadview.
A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.
