You olds don't need to hear this, but to you youngbloods out there, I come to you from the future: when the news begins talking about ways to save money for the holidays, rather than getting you hyped to drown in debt buying shit, that means shit is WAY FUCKING WORSE than they are letting on.

Time once again to remember the student who, ahead of my first Thanksgiving in the US, answered my question to the class of what people gave thanks for with "not being british"

And. . . I hate it say it, but it is (collectively) our fault for not ensuring the next generation has a robust education (and I don't just mean in school)
One of the strangest aspects of aging that they don't warn you about is watching as history gets rewritten right in front of your face and people 20 years younger than you confidently tell you about something you lived through and get it completely wrong.

Read this thread.

Everyone needs to understand the ongoing 'Problem' is not relegated to the game industry; it is a modular tumor in EVERY industry. Every sector, every field, every institution.

The C-Suite's entire job is to HURT you; to take everything, while giving nothing. They are The Enemy.
3 years ago today, Riot Games offered me a job making more money than I ever thought I’d make in my life. I had 19 interviews over 2.5 months to get it. Partner and I were moving to LA for it. I put in notice at my job and apartment.

2 weeks later they rescinded the offer due to “headcount issues”.

Ppl who want you to express gratitude but suppress trauma are dangerous.

You’re in a collision and they say be glad you had a car. As if gratitude pays hospital bills.

You’re underpaid/sexually harassed at work and they say be glad you have a job. Despite being exploited with poor mental health.

I had a great conversation about this phenomenon with some sociologists at ASA once. A colleague took me to task for failing to see how they KNOW the reference. They aren’t misreading literary references — they are wielding them to demonstrate their power to shape our ethics.

Sad to learn that BlueSky mods and others keep flagging @lilhazzy.bsky.social as AI. This is a real person and artist who has created my small business logo. This platform keeps getting worse and worse.

I got a tip a few months ago that ICE was planning to use tribal airports for ICE flights. I spent a few hours scouring flight data, found no evidence of this, and let it go.

But perhaps they all just said no? If anyone has more info, hmu on signal at gbrockell.44!
The definition of audacity: ICE asking WA tribes to host detention centers.

They got a very polite “fuck off.”

“The Nisqually people are not in favor of, nor will the tribal council allow, the detention of individuals by ICE on our reservation or in our facilities.” - Tribal Chair E.K. Choke

The Nisqually Indian Tribe says it is turning down a request from ICE to house detained immigrants on tribal land.

and yet, if you've met professors, not at all surprising
the professors in the emails being all chummy with epstein is pathetic and enraging.

i am pissed off that people are ignoring the courage & years of work by the epstein survivors & saying this focus on releasing the epstein files is all owed to trump’s biggest backer, elon musk. sorry. it’s the survivors’ work that brought allllll of this to light.

This is what Jupiter looks like in the infrared.

Its hot, lower atmosphere shining through the cooler cloud layers above.

You show me Jupiter and I'll show you a planet that wants you dead.

those of us laid off from Teen Vogue were really fortunate to complete our fundraising goal — the laid-off staffers at VIBE deserve the same support, as Black media outlets and journalists continue to be targeted and discriminated against in “austerity” measures
It was announced on October 16, 2025 that VIBE was "joining forces" with Rolling Stone. As a result, the majority of VIBE employees were laid off. If you have the means to give, this team could use the support! www.gofundme.com/f/support-vi...

Acknowledging the dead would mean acknowledging the catastrophic public health/economic/policy failure that made the body count so high in the first place

There were a few moments in that first year where we nearly got something, but that amounted to an NYT full spread of names and a CNN clicker
sometimes it will just hit me that over a million americans died from covid in a short period of time and we never had a national mourning. we never collectively grieved. we never honored the dead. this feels like a failure

Respect Alice Wong’s call here:
“When I am in public spaces and see most people unmasked either because they think the virus is a hoax, that masking is virtue signaling & a sign of weakness, aren't thinking about it, or that they simply don’t care, I feel like an expendable burden not worth saving.”
COVID Isn’t Going Anywhere. Masking Up Could Save My Life.

Support your local indy journalists folks. Health care is going to get a lot more expensive.
