I've wanted to write something about academic accommodations for a while, and in the absence of other inspiration, I'm just going to put it here.

I have a few points to make but first a bit of context about me. I'm profoundly deaf in my right ear. Basically can't hear anything in it. 1/

Do you know #deaf or hard of hearing kids ages 8-16 (any modality) who could benefit from being surrounded by other deaf and hard of hearing people?

Encourage them to come to Camp Sertoma in NC!

If I were a blue state governor, I’d be looking into adding a bunch of tenure lines at my state schools.

I know that seems like “kick ‘em when they’re down,” but it’s more like “let academics who can escape to where they can do real work.”

Builds up your own schools AND protect US academic output.
The governor of Texas is rapidly turning world-class universities into minor regional ones. Example:

my son is five, same age as Liam Ramos. you don't need to have a child the same age to be fucking horrified by the violence we are doing (and HAVE BEEN doing) upon immigrant children in this nation. but that he keeps asking for his spidey backpack is the kind of detail that rips my heart in two.

Disabled academics: how often are you made to pay for accommodations out of your ProD account (money that your colleagues get to put toward research travel, conferences, etc.)?

If I see you use this word, I'll block you. If you use it "satirically" I'll block you. Using it at all today is a really fine test of character.

I've had some of my books edited because I used it twenty years ago and I'm ashamed today of having used it.
