There have still been plenty of bumps recently, but Liverpool are starting to produce better performances with a little more regularity now. A long way to go before anyone is certain a corner has been turned, but this was another encouraging one to keep the FA Cup journey going.

Liverpool still assessing Wataru Endo but Arne Slot expects him to be out for "quite a long time".

Liverpool’s set-piece record has improved sharply since a staffing change in December. But are the two things linked? And how exactly have they got better?

How inswingers and Van Dijk focus have boosted Liverpool's set-piece output
The Reds' record from set-pieces has improved since a staffing change in December - but is that the sole reason why?

Tonight was the sort of physical battle Liverpool lost repeatedly in the early part of this season. That they didn't this time owed a lot to Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and a new-found set-piece prowess. Florian Wirtz also impressive again.

A crucial win for Liverpool's top-four hopes and deserved, too. They dealt with Sunderland's physicality in a way that has looked beyond them for most of the season and created enough to win it in open play despite doing so from a set-piece. Sunderland's first home loss of 25/26.

Arne Slot on the possibility of missing out on the Champions League: "When I arrived here, we could only sign Federico Chiesa after a Europa League season. I'm completely aware of that."

Joe Gomez expected to return to training today.

The word from Liverpool is that Arne Slot is safe, but I don't really buy the idea he can afford endless poor performances and bad results until the end of the season. Today was both, in my opinion.

Liverpool have lost to worse teams this season, but this was a truly dreadful day. You could see City's flaws during that 35-minute spell in the second half, but if you're only capable of playing well for that long with Anfield behind you, then you're not going to get fourth.

Liverpool hopeful Joe Gomez will train Saturday and be part of the squad to face Manchester City. Jeremie Frimpong still ruled out.

A few short years ago, Liverpool would've considered Jeremy Jacquet far too inexperienced to sign at that price. So what has led to this shift in transfer policy? And how are expectations being adjusted as a result?

Jacquet the embodiment of Liverpool's altered transfer approach
The Reds have struck a £60m deal for the 20-year-old that, a few short years ago, would have been considered out of character.

Liverpool confirm they have struck an agreement to sign Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet on July 1, 2026. The Frenchman will arrive in a deal worth £60m and sign a five year contract with the option of a further year.

Jeremy Jacquet is set to land in the U.K. in next few minutes to complete the formalities of his £60m move from Rennes to Liverpool.

Liverpool and Rennes have agreed a £55m +£5m deal for defender Jeremy Jacquet to move to Anfield in the summer.

Dominik Szoboszlai has insisted his future is "not in my hands" amid ongoing contract talks with Liverpool, adding: "I like the city, I like the club, I like playing with these guys, I love Anfield, I love the fans, let’s see what the future holds. It is not on me."

Lutsharel Gertruida is one of the options Liverpool are considering as they chase defensive reinforcements before the end of the transfer window. The Dutchman is currently on loan at Sunderland, which I’m told makes the move slightly complicated.

A superb show of fight and quality from Liverpool tonight to come through a difficult first half-hour and then produce that performance. They were outstanding to a man, but a word for Ibrahima Konate, who was flawless on his first game back since the passing of his father.

Curtis Jones is available to face Newcastle; Joe Gomez ruled out but isn't far away.
January 30, 2026 at 9:12 AM
Jeremie Frimpong set to be out for "a few weeks", Arne Slot says, but not as bad as Liverpool feared. Ibrahima Konate is back in training and available to face Newcastle.
January 30, 2026 at 9:09 AM
Arne Slot is absolutely right to push back on the constant bad-faith twisting of his words that is rampant on social media of late. But that doesn't mean he couldn't also help himself in press conferences - not mentioning PSG so often would be a start.
www.davidlynchlfc.co.uk/p/slot-is-ri...
Slot is right to push back on social media jibes, but he is too honest
Arne Slot has earned the right to remind everyone of the significance of his achievements at Liverpool, but a war with fans will help nobody.
