A large person, in Canada. Father to two, smaller persons. Wife guy. Dual citizen, a modicum of discipline.

Proud liberal. Hobbesian. Unix apostate, Classic Mac OS revanchist, tilter at path-dependent windmills. Emacsist.
The thing that's most irritating about the Cybertruck, aside from everything, is that it falls into the uncanny valley between "a real car" and "a cool doodle" and ends up looking much worse for it. If it were 20% MORE cartoonish, or 10% less, it wouldn't look so goddamned idiotic.
The Rivian ones are different, to me, because they're not functionally any dumber looking than any other Childcrusher F-1000x King Cab whatever. The Cybertruck is easily the stupidest looking thing I see any day I see it.

Can a band that sold 43 million albums still be underappreciated? Bill Janovitz thinks so, and his new biography makes the case. Read Jim’s newsletter for a fresh look at the band’s music, their lasting influence, and his firsthand memories of seeing them live as a teenager: bit.ly/3LxhJiQ

RETVRN
The Grey Cup is on, so it's time, once again, to remember that Pierre Trudeau rolled up to Grey Cup in 1970 looking like this.

Everything about this post is perfect.
I was being smug about the folks who create towering grease fires when they fail to thoroughly thaw their turkeys pre-frying only to realize I failed to thaw tofu for dinner. Related, I thought of a new drag name: Hugh Bris.
“Looking to deep fry a turkey this year, an activity so dangerous that fire departments release annual PSAs warning against it? Then pick a name you can trust: Loco Cookers!”

The fact that you can, for all intents and purposes, die a miserable death where the cause is TOPOLOGY is absolute nightmare fuel. Pure Lovecraftian horror: the shape from space that eats your brain.

I’m sympathetic to the argument that this sort of thing, while clearly statutory rape, is perhaps a different order of offense than what Trump did; on the other hand, it’s not fucking hard not to sleep with an underage student as a 22 yr old, so my sympathy here is somewhat attenuate.

My dad was pals with Gajdusek and we used to go to his house for cookouts and I asked him about kuru once.

Prionic diseases have been my nightmare since the 80s when I met Gajdusek. Normal kids were afraid of crocodiles or quicksand and I was kept up nights by Able Archer and FFI and shit.

Also I mean “Gary” is a top decile cat name.
Amazing, no notes, I do not desire to learn anything else about this story, for it would only detract from the perfection on this headline.

This is amazing
a big runoff last night, in New Orleans:

Calvin Duncan was exonerated after spending *28 years* in prison; he tried to get his own case records from the New Orleans city clerk—but the office dragged its feet.

So Duncan ran to become city clerk himself, and yesterday ousted the incumbent.

It’s also good? Setting aside what’s in her heart or whatever, public acts of contrition for bad acts is a load bearing pillar of a civil society.
Obviously, who knows if she'll behave consistently with those words going forward. But the mere fact that she apologized and acknowledged that she has played that role is not at all what I expected from her.

Naked Raygun, THROB THROB to ALL RISE
Good evening Bluesky. What do you think is the sharpest rise in quality between a first album and a second album?

My choice is from "Frank" to "Back In Black" by Amy Winehouse.
