Once you’ve realized that you don’t feel the same feelings as other people, it becomes difficult to accept over-generalizations about “humanity.”

Reminded of the time that a BBC World Service presenter asked their guest how long there had been a Latino presence in Los Angeles and I yelled at my car stereo, “The name of the city is **LOS ANGELES**!”
I may have a stroke.

Someone said protests don’t belong in church and it took every ounce of self-censure within me not to say “Deborah you are literally a Protestant.”

A PROTESTant.

I assume they think Luther was nailing Bed, Bath, & Beyond coupons to the door.

Cheery was aware that Commander Vimes didn't like the phrase 'The innocent have nothing to fear', believing the innocent had everything to fear, mostly from the guilty but in the longer term even more from those who say things like 'The innocent have nothing to fear'.
Discworld QOTD, from Thud!

“Beating people up in little rooms…he knew where that led. And if you did it for a good reason, you’d do it for a bad one. You couldn’t say ‘We’re the good guys’ and do bad-guy things.”
Discworld QOTD, from Making Money

"‘Even tyrants have to obey the law.’ He paused, looking thoughtful, and continued: ‘No, I tell a lie, tyrants do not have to obey the law, obviously, but they do have to observe the niceties.’"

every time I saw a big door in Deltarune I would jokingly think to myself "undertale is happening in there". the problem is that I found this phrase so amusing that every time I see a door I'm not supposed to go into irl I think to myself "undertale must be happening in there"

Kill the reflexive urge to engage with anything you think is neat by finding out what the worst people you can imagine are saying about it first. Feel what you're feeling and move on with your day.

I'm not! I don't care what they have to think or say! Fuck em!

Cafe at The Portland art museum has Rothko no. 5 cakes. Something intellectually meaty about seeing the painting in person, and then eating a cake copy. The complete experience. Full spectrum.

I think I might take one of these "under 20 minutes" AI skills courses the UK Govt. seems very keen on everyone doing and live-post it here... Maybe we can all learn something together! The press release sends me to aiskillshub.org.uk/aiskillsboost/ - let's go and see!

How? How do you double-check the accuracy, if you're not already an expert? Ask a different GenAI? Or do you, you know... Have to go and do the research you would have done anyway, pre-AI? Because I'm buggered if I can think of how you do that in a way where the GenAI saved you time.

Ok, we're into the intro video, and we've been told that "you'll learn why crafting clear, precise prompts is essential to getting accurate, helpful results from Generative AI". Which strongly implies that accurate results are possible, and if they're not, that's your fault.

I, too, had a therapist tell me this, and it remains one of the most essential tools in my burnout management kit.

I'll just add this: If you cannot tell if you need to recharge -- you DEFINITELY NEED TO GO RECHARGE. It's like dehydration during a polar vortex, it sneaks up on you.
I paid my therapist a zillion dollars to tell me this, so I’m passing it on to anyone else in MN who needs to hear it:

Think of taking time away to recharge not as not doing the work, but as doing quality control for the work. You’re not going to be able to show up to do it well if you’re depleted

also if you're worried that asking a pharmacist "can I use GoodRX and pay less" and handing them your phone is weird/awkward I promise you they have seen it 500 times and are glad people are getting their medicine (pharmacists are who told me about this to begin with!!!)
they sent my prescription to the wrong pharmacy but the GoodRX price was less than my insurance cost would have been anyways god bless GoodRX dude, saved me a cool $40

I dunno, dude, it seems to entirely solve the problem of having bovino around. Bitch is a first town boss in a jrpg. He's not the end, but beating him allows you to progress and feel good about it.

Chickadees are a pretty good symbol for community defense; they're rooted in their locality (don't migrate), they indicate resources to migratory birds, they warn of threats ("chickadee-dee-dee-dee") and they dgaf about the cold
Just a little scrabbledy sketch to keep spirits up.

I also learned today that a group of chickadees is called a ‘banditry’ and how cute is that?
