Two days ago it was Elissa Slotkin. Last week it was Jerome Powell. Before that, Mark Kelly. Weaponizing the justice system against your opponents is an authoritarian tactic.

The only person not being investigated for the shooting of Renee Good is the federal agent who shot her.
Breaking news: The Justice Department has issued subpoenas for Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey as part of an investigation alleging that they are impeding federal law enforcement officers’ abilities to do their jobs in the state.

i still can't believe they went for 30,000 tons displace with 128+12 cells, its like a putting a civic engine in a dump truck
Some eye-popping cost estimates for the battleship, courtesy of Eric Labs of the Congressional Budget Office. 1 BBG could buy up to 7 DDGs (which, btw is 128 VLS cells and 12 CPS cells vs 672 VLS cells). In the words of the immortal Ron O’Rourke, which came first: the program or the analysis?

the thing is these are good things for their own sake but they do not actually work to increase the birthrate, as the European experience largely shows. pretty much nothing increases the birthrate that we've found so far, whether good welfare state stuff or natalist nationalism and anti-choice shit.
leftist plan to increase the birthrate:

- universal health care
- free child care
- better paid family leave
- better workforce protections so they can't lay you off while you're pregnant and be like "no it was for something else i swear"

ok i did it

As birthrates tumble, some progressives say the left needs to offer ideas and solutions
The US and other countries face aging, shrinking populations. Conservatives have shaped debate over the issue. Some liberals say it's time for progressives to weigh in.

Whenever people (correctly) argue that Gamergate was a pivotal event in the development of the modern right, I always get the sense that a lot of people who object are doing so out of a sense of embarrassment that something so stupid could be so significant

Historically, we've focused a lot on the brutal actions of authoritarian regimes, and today is no different.
Using imagery online of the shooting by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, we’ve created an animated sequence which highlights the approximate positioning of officers and vehicles at the scene. The red dot represents the agent who fired the shots. Yellow dots are other agents who arrived at the scene.

It's just a reminder that there is overwhelming shadow haunting pretty much all of military commentary: the shadow of innumeracy. If you can't stop and work out the math that the resource expenditures in this war are measured in NATOs, then you are incapable of saying anything meaningful.

Rough vibes on this website today, likely because people feel Hopeless and Helpless Because Can't Stop It and No One Who Is Supposed To Is Trying To So Now We're Fighting Each Other™. I recommend activities such as book, or potentially instrument if you like instrument, or even do talk on phone.

It's an old and obvious pattern. An unpopular president - failing on the economy and losing his grip on power at home - decides to launch a war for regime change abroad.

The American people don’t want to “run” a foreign country while our leaders fail to improve life in this one.

Lotta feelings, but foremost, a deep anger that our government claims both that it can use domestic law to target anyone in the world, but denies that the children of immigrants are US citizens. "Binds but does not protect," on a global scale.

Im seeing discussions about consultations with congress, authorizations of force etc. I have to say this transcends any of what I would call sub constitutional technicalities. The president has gone to war with a foreign power and, it seems, kidnapped a foreign head of state on the basis of nothing.

for example: you could easily *imagine* a pac man with a hand painted screen for every combination of pac and ghost and dot states and positions. using sprites for it is just a proceduralization of that ideal.
