Time to bring a twitter series to Bluesky: Given the incredible number of 20th-century churches in Northrhine-Westphalia (the topic of my dissertation), I’m going post one or two every day. None of these images are mine, they're all credited in the alt text, and I'll take any down if asked

If you:

1. Go to chrome://flags
2. Type in "AI" in the Search Flags bar
3. Turn all the "Defaults" to "Disabled"

You can turn off ALL the AI bullshit in Chrome.

Aerial view of a church. The church is built of concrete but has a very prominent aluminum-capped tower. The sanctuary has a roof with multiple different levels and clerestory windows between. The whole is in a green location near a field. Multiple ceiling planes are stacked above each other and seem to converge above the altar. Light enters through clerestory windows between the ceiling planes. I’ve finally realized that what I most enjoy about architecture, viscerally, is contrast. I love this

Yesterday I was told that the class I’m scheduled to teach this month, Confronting Oppression & Injustice, is no longer part of our curriculum. This is a required class yet there was no discussion, no faculty vote, just an email saying the class no longer exists. This is what it’s like in Texas now.

There. Are. No. Exceptions. To. Human. Rights. If one of us isn't free, none of us are free. I want to live in a country where a politician who stands on this principle isn't the exception. But until then, Mamdani is an example of what's possible, and what we should demand from our leaders.

This is such a cool move. “I’m the new Pope. Now make me a skull.”

On his election in 1655, Pope Alexander VII commissioned Gian Lorenzo Bernini to sculpt a skull in marble, which he kept on his desk as a reminder of death's omnipresence. The sculpture was rediscovered in 2021 at Schloss Pillnitz, Dresden
Guido Ubaldo Abbatini, Pope Alexander VII with Bernini's skull (1655-56), Art Collection of the Sovereign Order of Malta, Rome. Pope Alexander VII sits in an elaborately carved chair, carved with the Chigi coat of arms, and rests his hands on a carved skull on the desk in front of him and looks out at the viewer A realistic, life-size marble skull with teeth missing, carved out of marble by Gian Lorenzo Bernini(1655)

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.
