#TheTenx5 Day 1

ROSALÍA - Milionària (2019)

Country: Catalonia (Spain)
Single: Yes (Fucking Money Man EP)

Sitting between the chilled neo-flamenco of El Mal Querer and Motomami's hyper-reggaeton, this is prob one of her most straightforward pop songs, and until Divinize the only one in Catalan.

Vale entonces vamos con #thetenx5

This list is definitely the least coherent so far with a mixture of songs I liked at the time, ones I picked up from other parts of the challenge and a hefty dose of songs plucked from our shared Spxtify likes.

Cadbury's chocolate
Guys, I really need to talk about something dumb and meaningless. What's a universally beloved sweet treat that you think is just mid? For me, it's meringue.

But which song is "best" or do I "like" more I ask myself for approximately the 1000th time.

(Anyway my #thetenx5 list is almost almost done)

Crystal Castles
Question for the Skyline: What was your HARDEST "cancel"?? Like the actor/singer/athlete that was the hardest to drop.

I feel like it's always people I don't fw getting canceled so it's never really a loss.

The hardest one was maybe TI because I actually liked multiple albums by him.

Getting a bit close to the wire for @bestalbumbrackets.bsky.social recommendations but if you like laid-back R&B then you won't find much better than this. It's a little too smooth for my usual taste but if you like it then you'll *really* like it.

I've read enough sci fi to know how this goes
New planet just dropped and it

1) is almost exactly Earth-sized

2) has a year that's almost exactly 1 Earth year.

3) orbits a star that is not a 💢temperamental little shit M-dwarf 💢but is instead a 🧡 good orange boi 🧡

And not just Wakefield himself. Virtually the entire media uncritically repeated his fraud to the public and he never would have had the impact he did without their willing help.
I don't exaggerate when I say that Andrew Wakefield should be tried for mass murder. We'll never know how many people have died or will die as a direct result of his fraudulent study.
This is the large domino, with the small domino being some random quack in the UK in 1998 trying to undermine the existing MMR vaccine so his business partner can swoop in with his own. Instead he lost his work credentials and now kids are dying needlessly all over the world, so great job everyone.

I feel like I need to be overwhelmed by music, and that can be through sheer volume of noise or abrasiveness, or something simple that gets properly into my brain. Anything too polished or idk obviously "performed" (for want of a better word) just bounces off me.
Thinking today (apropos of nothing important) about how I came to be into noisy, discordant avant-garde music and why it appeals to me. I think deep down the thing I love most in sound is texture, how these pressure waves are moulded to evoke places and feelings. But let's have some examples!

Today in foods the British mind cannot comprehend we have tinned squid in "American sauce" (kind of an oily tomato sauce). Slow cooked with selected ingredients it says.

Well that was excellent, Baiuca bringing the energy of a Galician street party to London. Incredible vocals and percussion and a room full of very happy people.

Jesus my brain sometimes. It only just occurred to me that they called it Roomba as a pun on Rumba, because I was confused that a Spanish band were singing about their vacuum cleaner.

¡Hostia que buena!

Acabo de escuchar las dos primeras canciones pero estoy flipando

So good. Just listened to the first two songs but this is fantastic.
Have you tried the Nortec Collective album yet?

More gqom cry the people! Steel-hard beats with menacing sci-fi drones and keyboards, like a gqom take on the militarised drum’n’bass Ed Rush et al used to do. Weirder touches, like a woozy horn riff, poke through the general onslaught. Exhilarating!

We sat down to plan a holiday to Andalusia and somehow ended up booking a place on the Costa Brava again. One day we'll actually go to the south of Spain like we keep saying we should but that day has not yet come.

This is my current working list for 2001 noms. Decided against Stars Of The Lid in the end because no one who doesn't like it already wants to listen to 2.5 hours of nothing much. Still loads to listen to and a few might slip off if it starts getting too long.
