Live tickets are already expensive but you've got to add Barbican membership on top of that if you even want the opportunity to buy them.
Very annoying that the new Daniel Avery album seems to be pretty fucking good but couldn't get tickets to the live show because they all went during the pre sale.

UNIIQU3 - Microdosing (2021)

Country: US

Continuing yesterday's theme of songs I nominated for an end of year poll but somehow missed my 50.
It's a good start! Trying not to get expectations too high tbh.
But I think this concept is as much in the mind of the listener as it is in the record itself. Eg LAP has some of the best pop singles of all time therefore Madonna is a singles artist therefore this isn't a proper album.
I'm sure there was a time when you got a new computer and you expected it to be in some way better than the old one.
And then the solid 7/10 album *must* have been conceived as a whole because there's no outliers on it.
I think it's to do with the concept of an album and whether you think the artist was aiming to create some coherent whole that runs for ~45 mins, or if they threw in some songs to make up the running time. (Not that it bothers me either way, but some people are more precious about the concept).

It's always a good time to post this

Sahra Halgan - Sharaf (2024)

Country: Somalia

Seen this picked quite a few times and kicking myself for overlooking it on my long list.
So sorry to hear that ❤️

Jane Paknia & Hagop Tchaparian - Alice in Orchidverse (2024)

Country: US, UK

Lovely way to round out the first half of the list. Next month is going to be more latin-centric and prob a lot more singleton picks.
"I tried to call the guy back but he didn't answer"
But man, *stop shouting all over them*
Definitely the most baffling album of the tournament for me. Everyone says it's great but no one says why.
This kind of thing ended up being a little underrepresented on my list, partly because I was prioritising songs or genres you might not hear so much. So no Kelly Lee Owens, HAAi, Octo Octa, Eris Drew etc even if I do listen to those artists a lot.

Avalon Emerson & Storm Queen - On It Goes (2025)

Country: US

There's a whole load of great no fuss club music from the last few years but this is an absolute standout.
I had the remix on my longlist so this could nudge it into my HMs.
Hard to tell from a small piece but looks to me like cross-bedding, like from ripples, either formed in water or wind-blown sand.

Indravathi Chauhan - Oo Antava Oo Oo Antava (2021)

Country: India

My "ultimate golden beat", ie top discovery, from the pop polls and great to see it getting some picks here as well.

Daboor & Shabjdeed - Inn Ann (2021)

Country: Palestine

Continuing with the anti-colonialism, this time from East Jerusalem.
