I miss some clicky stories by never using blind quotes, but really, fuck them. Say it with your chest, use your name. Don't use me to launder your gossip.

"cliches are bad" not when it's the protagonist stumbling into a gothic castle in the middle of a storm while the lord of said castle who is highly suspected of being a vampire takes pity on them, nurses them back to health, and insists they must stay for the night

We weren’t super close but my friend Rob was a really sweet guy who died way too young. He was friends with my sister in high school and I saw him go through some rough years before finding himself. I used to visit him in Oregon and he was an example of what great guys could be. Here’s to you, man
Quote-skeet and tell me about a friend of yours who died too soon. I want to remember them with you.

This is your annual reminder that in 2005 I saw Bobby "Boris" Pickett live when he was a surprise guest at a Rocket From The Crypt show. He sang one song ("Monster Mash") and prefaced it by saying, "Elvis said this song was the stupidest thing he ever heard, but he died on the toilet, so fuck him!"

this is hilarious because you can look up Eugene Meyer on wikipedia and find out that he was an anti-New Deal partisan who absolutely forced his influence both on the opinion and news pages and even wrote his own editorializing "news" piece under an assumed name. It takes two seconds

tbf, even if no one ever subscribed again, Jeff Bezos could create an endowment to pay salaries and pensions to every journalist who works for The Washington Post until the Earth is swallowed up by the Sun rather than punish the ones who work there now for the consequences of a decision he made.
The @washingtonpost.com has lost 200,000 subscribers, @npr.org says.

I understand the anger; many in the newsroom are angry, too. But how many stories won't get reported, and how many journalists will lose their jobs, because of a decision they had nothing to do with?

200,000 subscribers desert 'Washington Post' after Bezos blocks Harris endorsement
Over 200,000 people canceled their subscriptions in the first few days following news that The Washington Post would not endorse any presidential candidate.

I’ll never forget talking to a kid in fifth grade who said “oh I love Pop-Up Video! I just wish they didn’t have those things that show up on screen while the video is playing”
I know it hasn’t existed for 20 years but a dream job for me has always been “researcher for Pop-Up Video”
Being able to look stuff up all day is literally the dream

This is honest, accurate framing. There’s an annoying tic a lot of news orgs have that says if Trump does something that obviously bad faith you have to pretend it’s good faith. “He worked a shift!” It is not unfair to a candidate to say something honest that is also unflattering

My journalistic opinion on covering Trump making dick jokes at rallies is that if you omit it because it seems declassé or salacious and it's house style to avoid that sort of thing, the institution needs to revisit house style, and stop worrying about manners.

If you’re new to Bluesky, please be aware that a “matte” glaze that turns glossy when fired to a higher cone is NOT a true matte glaze; it’s just underfired, and that means it is not fully vitrified, and it is very likely not food-safe
if you're new to Bluesky, please be aware that while ondansetron does carry a black box warning for QT prolongation, is is only for 32mg IV doses, and not for standard 4-8mg single doses; for patients without risk factors (familial LQTS, multiple psych meds), routine ECG is unlikely to be helpful
Similarly, if you're new to Bluesky, it's important you understand that sail racing does not follow ordinary nautical rules for right-of-way. A bow-to-bow crossing does not require ships adhere to port-to-port; rather, the boat with starboard windward has the right-of-way.
