Northwestern University law profs argue that NU's "deal" with the Trump admin violates the First Amendment and federal antidiscrimination law.

Moreover, the grant freeze Trump imposed on NU was unlawful and should have been challenged in court.

My conspiracy theory is that the board of trustees forced Schill to resign in order to install an 87-year-old former NU president as interim in order to capitulate.
Bienen is living in fantasy land if he believes that a deal dictating a bunch of rules about admissions and hiring that go well beyond what the law actually requires amounts to preserving control over admission and hiring. Or he thinks the faculty are illiterate

Columbia and Northwestern are the academic homes to the most prestigious journalism schools in the country and they are the two universities that caved to the Trump administration’s extortion demands that are directly connected to the First Amendment. Just gonna sit with that for a while.
