For an authoritarian, getting troops on the streets is not an end in itself. They are supposed to impose *control* on a society, using force to engineer compliance with government dictates.

That is failing in Minnesota, just like it failed in cities like LA and Chicago bsky.app/profile/diff...
which part of this is the losing? the surge of thugs to MN? the insurrection act?

THREAD of offers of guest lectures (via Zoom) for Minneapolis-area classes so faculty can offer their students a top-quality education while dealing with other crises

Seeing tons of extremely generous offers. I'll try to post 'em all here--please add your own w topics you can cover & how to contact
Finally, a note to the many professors in my networks: One other specific, small thing you can do from outside of Minneapolis is reach out to colleagues who are heavily affected (because of their own or their family's risk, or because they're very busy protecting neighbors) and offer a guest lecture

Pritzker: The Insurrection Act is designed for circumstances where your rights can’t be protected by local authorities

This is exactly the opposite.

Your civil rights are being infringed upon by CBP and ICE, and then they want to call in troops claiming that they’re protecting CBP and ICE.

We are so far past the Rubicon that it isn't worth having a discussion anymore as to whether Trump is acting as an authoritarian. The only question is whether we have the strength and courage to get back to the other side.

You can probably measure Donald Trump's day to day change in level of acute fascism (as opposed to chronic fascism, which is always high) by how many short notice press calls I get. Today's impromptu TV complete with business on the top party on the bottom outfit is about insurrection act threats.

The University of Arkansas's law school just withdrew the appointment of its new dean six days after hiring her because conservative politicians complained that she filed an amicus brief to the Supreme Court in support of transgender students

I do wonder when we're going to learn that Putin has been whispering in Trump's ear about how great owning Greenland would be for years and years
Blowing up NATO by attacking the territory of an ally may be a feature not a bug to some advocates.

Wonder which countries would benefit from the destruction of NATO...
NEWSMAX: If we take Greenland, can we get out of NATO and stop paying $50 billion a year?

REP. RANDY FINE: NATO needs the US a lot more than the US needs NATO. Greenland should be part of the United States.
