I don't know if non-lawyers understand how insane this statement is. I honestly can't think of anything remotely comparable in non-lawyer speak. I guess the closest would be a surgeon saying "Imagine if I had to wash my HANDS before doing surgery!"
Mike Johnson speaks out against the use of judicial warrants in immigration cases:

"Imagine if we had to go through the process of getting a judicial warrant"

Many said we were exaggerating a year ago when we argued that Trump is a clear and present danger to our democracy. A year later they are eating their words.

It’s up to every single one of us to save our democracy.

The basic lesson of the Second World War was that democracy requires a cordon sanitaire and US institutions could not enforce ours and now we are on a step function toward authoritarian hell until that barrier is restored

It’s extremely bad for the prospects of our democracy that the sole small-d democratic party has an incentive to keep a fascist party held only just in abeyance instead of casting it permanently outside the bounds of legitimate politics
It really bums me out that Klobuchar, who was instrumental in normalizing Trump as just another political adversary, is almost certainly going to be the next governor of Minnesota, a state currently paying a severe price for that normalization of fascism.
Here's all the Klobuchar v. Republican matchups from that SurveyUSA poll

Best Klobuchar lead is +20, worst is +14

In fact eroticized exploitation, abuse, domination, and violence are in fact normative parts of male heterosexuality—they’re largely constitutive of how men define themselves as men. The big feminist and queer intervention in sexual politics has been to say that this is corrosive and unnecessary.
Presented without comment. I just want everyone here to know.

I want you to know what you're looking at the next time you see this guy being interviewed or RTed by an Abundance bro.

This is my most recent post on the subject—shots of not-fully-elaborated threads, and a link to a medium piece from 2020 that updates (& links to) the original Transfer Union argument which was 2014 (but really 2010ish) bsky.app/profile/raja...
For years, I have argued that memories of Reconstruction & Civil Rights made Dems plump for an ever-more-powerful Federal Govt, but this is risky for Dems not just because of the structure of US electoral institutions but even of US opinions. Constantly reminded of @rajakorman.bsky.social’s characterization of the US as a “transfer union”—these guys constantly prevaricate about the direction of the subsidies to sublimate their fears about losing them
Markwayne Mullin: "I agree with what Lindsey is saying on defunding these sanctuary cities. We should pull our TSA agents out of their airports and not allow their airpot to be classified as international or even a regional hub. We should pull all of our aid."

The Broligarchs are products of unprecendented prosperity--largely in tech, largely funded by the American taxpayer via NSF grants, federal contracts, etc.--which they used to fund state capture.
They bought & neutered democratic institutions (Congress, the IRS & FTC) that constrained them.

They seem to be betting on a broad social rejection of immigrants to legitimize their authoritarian power grab. So loudly defending immigrants and immigration means defending democracy
“Migration enforcement” is a pretext
Trump: "These people were brought to our country to vote, & they vote illegally. The Republicans should say, we should take over the voting in at least 15 places. The Republicans ought to nationalize the voting. We have states that I won that show I didn't win. You're gonna see something in Georgia"

I don’t think I can say this forcefully enough: hundreds of thousands of Haitians will lose status tomorrow with racist ending of their TPS & are spending today refreshing their feeds for a court order that could literally save thier lives.

This is nothing short of psychosocial torture.
