Surprising exactly nobody, working in IT and especially cybersecurity, absolutely fucking *destroys* anything resembling mental health.
It's even worse in systems infra, because there is no 'hero narrative.' Just "kill yourself for us or else, j/k, here's 'AI!'"

Remember: "just following orders" is not a defense. Ignorance is not an excuse. If you are in doubt, call.

Following unlawful orders can result in a lengthy prison sentence or execution. And shooting civilians is felony murder, a capital offense.

Be patient with the National Guard shooting narrative.

It can take time for the authorities to comb DC to find a trans person to blame.

I always say that it's better to hold off on blaming a particular political side for an act of violence. Here's why I'm blaming today's national guard shooting on the woke left.

I'm tempted to make a tech-related job board, with the following criteria:

- No AI
- No blockchain
- Every job must allow 100% remote as an option
- Compensation must be fully transparent

Unfortunately, I feel like it would, on most days, be empty. Too many tech companies are up to some bullshit.

Exclusive: President Trump has argued with the architect he handpicked to design a White House ballroom over the size of the project, reflecting a conflict between architectural norms and Trump’s grandiose aesthetic.
Trump wants a bigger White House ballroom. His architect disagrees.
The president and James McCrery had argued in recent weeks over the project’s size, with Trump pushing him to expand the ballroom.

I don't think that part gets enough attention. So-called "AI" is a fascist project, and anyone "boosting" it is actively helping fascists, intentionally or not.

ok: 2025 "AI" is built and funded by fascists for fascist purposes, and that should be the first thing anyone talks about when mentioning it in any regard.

Kindle Unlimited has one compensation tier for people who publish directly into it, and another compensation tier for books published elsewhere, and the latter tier looks more like a conventional royalty structure and is not dependent on the monthly "pot" Amazon defines. So for me, it's fine.
Q for @scalzi.com - maybe NDA, but what does Kindle Unlimited look like from the author perspective? Just saw Kaiju Preservation Society is there.

As a huge reader, would love to understand the author pov making the decision.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.
