Sometimes we’re unsatisfied with a thing we made because when it only existed in our head, we saw all the things it could have been and when it’s done we know all the things that it isn’t, but we can’t see the way it expands into a million new things when someone else unpacks it in their head. 🖊️🦑

Surprising no one who follows me, the RELIC series by @mazmaddox.bsky.social

Just absolutely no contest, dinosaurs shifters and mafia, and a wild romp of the BEST kind of fun.
I know all my people are bucking this trend.

What's the most fun read you had in the past year?
There has been a steady decline in reading for fun. From 2003 to 2023, the share of Americans who read for pleasure fell 40%, a sharp decline that is part of a continuing downward trend, according to a study published on Wednesday.

Y'all worried about Obergefell and I'm just wondering how long it takes us to back track and overturn Lawrence v Texas.

Consensual, private, same sex relationships have only been legal since 2003. 🙈🙉🙊

Hey.

Hey, you.

Yeah, you. The person reading this. You, specifically.

Be messier and weirder. Fuck up more. And cut people a break when they're messy and weird and fuck up, if you can.

Queerness is about being messy.

Since we don't have polls here on Bluesky yet...

In the replies here you will find two posts. Like the post you agree with most.

We are pitting hardcover books against paperbacks.

I wanna know who reads what!

So, I used to work at a call center in the fraud department for a financial institution. I dealt with porn claims for maybe a good third of my calls.

The problem with explicit content for payment processors isn't actually porn:

It's free trial scams.

I dont understand the appeal of a kilt, but the author of this Ren Faire romance series seems to REALLY like them. I can instantly tell a man introduced is going to be a hunky beefcake if he is wearing a kilt. The Kilt is instant shorthand for Irresistible Sex Appeal. 😆 #romancelandia

Every time I run into "The primary text is held in private collection." MY BLOOD BOILS, and @mazmaddox.bsky.social I deeply envy the ability to just turn into a dinosaur and eat the history hoarding dipshits.

One of the many problems with academics who only read historians without ever pulling up the original primary texts is that it renders them COMPLETELY UNABLE TO RECOGNIZE BLARING POLITICAL SATIRE!!!

The countdown clock is in hours and the backing progress bar is nail-bitingly close to fully backed -

Lets punt this one across the finish line, and grab some cool queer dragon books from an award winning indy author all in one 😎 🐲 🔥

Writers, describe your WIP in the worst way possible.

If you live (most places) in Washington State you can also get a card for Sno-Isle for free, which has the fourth largest Libby/Overdrive collection in the nation.

They tend to have all the queer books that QLL has and then some, with shorter wait times.

It is TOTALLY WILD that I can email a professor on the opposite side of the planet asking for a copy of their journal article deconstructing gender roles in politics in 17th century Europe & they will just SEND IT TO ME, FOR FREE, LESS THAN 24 HOURS LATER!!!

IT FEELS LIKE. FUCKING. MAGIC. 🤯✨️⭐️💖👏⭐️💖✨️🎉

This letter from my Orlesian Bard to the Inquisitor (both player characters) proclaiming the love he knows to be deeply one-sided, given just before the final battle of our 5-year-long Dragon Age: The Roleplaying Game campaign, remains the most romantic thing I've ever written in my god damn life

Gender affirming care IS life saving care.

I agree that our message to young people should be "there are ways to survive this," but that doesn't mean we should deny the actual literal truth, because that will only give the Alt-Right more ammo to take it all away.
And the non-profit industrial complex invariably describes gender-affirming care for young people as "life-saving" because the subtext is "if trans young people can't get puberty blockers they WILL kill themselves."

Fan conventions exist through the labor of unpaid volunteers - many working 40-60 hour weeks for months at a time (on top of their real paying jobs).

Commonly events with 15,000+ attendees will have zero paid employees.

Even shows that pay a few staff members rely on many, many more unpaid ones.
What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?

Convention tables/booths can cost anywhere from $75 all the way up to $5000, depending on the show. If someone is behind a table at a con, they probably paid a lot of money to be there.

Banning transition healthcare will effectively ban *all* health care for trans patients. You know how long it took me to find a doctor who would see me for routine *antibiotics* when I lived in a state that allowed doctors to opt out of trans health care?

Three. Months.
i know a lot else is going on, but US folks PLEASE call your senators - they are actively set on trying to ban trans healthcare on Medicaid entirely which trans people like me who are on Medicaid actively depend on for life-saving healthcare
The Senate reconciliation bill retains the trans healthcare Medicaid/CHIP ban.

Call your Senators, we still have a good shot at killing this provision.

Hundreds of thousands of people rely on this care.
