Despite all the laws and rhetoric and violence, the number of people who identify as trans still continues to increase across the country, every year.

Their attacks are escalating precisely because they are afraid and desperate they have failed so far.

"Oppression is the mask of fear."
Consider that, despite dozens of states banning trans care for minors in the last several years, as well as bans on literature or teachers talking about trans people in schools, the number of trans youth keeps increasing every year, across the United States.

The increasing escalation from the far-right in their attacks on us reflects the primal desperation the fascists feel knowing they are continuously losing their fight to commit genocide. As Karis Nemik writes in his manifesto in Andor, oppression is the mask of fear.

I think they can also override the vetoes when the next session comes back next year, since it's still the same session.
madycast.com
no, but they can convene special sessions if they want to. they did last year after Trump was elected.

I keep watching Mamdani's video in disbelief of how good it is... centering BIPOC trans street activism, SOPHIE soundtrack, pivoting to supporting funds for trans housing and healthcare...
madycast.com
Mamdani promises to deploy *hundreds* if lawyers to fight for trans rights, create a new office of LGBTQ affairs, and allocate millions of dollars to fund housing and healthcare for trans kids and adults

This is what fighting back looks like--elevating activists to materually support trans people.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

legislative studies are usually first steps for more concrete legislation and signal that they are paying attention to the problem. It might seem obvious to us, but to lawmakers the best ways to fight these issues aren't always obvious and the point of this law is to get that information

Chapelle Roan says "Fuck ICE, forever" very nervously yesterday during her concert (twice). The crowd goes absolutely nuts!

From a source who was there.

(please don't copyright claim me this is journalistic fair use 😭)

UPDATE: As of 10/11/25, Newsom has signed AB 727 providing LGBTQ+ suicide hotline numbers on student IDs, and AB 678 which orders a study on how to reduce anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination in homelessness programs.

Eight other bills are still pending.

Grassroots org @translatinacoalition.org recently announced an initiative for LA's housing programs to materially support trans peoples' housing needs. These initiatives should be a priority in every city and state.

Trans POC once again leading the way!

I missed AB678 among the dozens of bills Newsom signed yesterday. That brings Newsom up to 2 bills signed, 8 still waiting on action, and 0 vetoed, among the 10 bills in our article.

This one was supported by Republicans so not too surprising, but a win for LGBTQ+ homeless people regardless.

Hundreds of lawyers for trans rights if realized would bring the NYC legal team to the size of the entire ACLU... I don't know if, given the legal landscape, more lawyers will necessarily create huge wins in the short term, but it's still a huge commitment that could defend NYC against legal actions

Broke: 300 tweets mocking Trump in all caps and lawsuits that go nowhere on appeal.

Woke: directly combatting lost funding and resources by taxing the wealthy to support the marginalized, and centering BIPOC trans activists, not politicians, as the centerpiece of such policy.

how does one accidentally fire hundreds of people?

characterizing this as a mistake because that's what the administration says feels just about as naive as the journalists who "fact checked" people who warned Trump was going to enact Project 2025, because he said he wouldn't lol.

The Trump administration on Saturday scrambled to rescind layoffs of hundreds of CDC scientists who were mistakenly fired on Friday night in what appeared to be a substantial procedural lapse.

I don't "love" any country, only humans.

It's weird to humanize institutions that way. Imagine if someone said they love Google Inc. or Harvard University or Kellogg's.

What does that even mean? The only interpretations devalue the concept of love itself to something below human love.

The bill doesn't appear to ban trans athletes from sports, and actually supports trans girls equality in sports compared to boys

more research on AB932:
this bill Newsom signed is opposed by an anti-trans hate group with a way too long name, and supported by one LGBTQ+ group.

It seems to be a bill meant to reduce disparities between boys and girls sports, and probably? doesn't ban trans kids from sports.

Countering GOP hate messaging about "protecting girl's sports" by genuinely passing a bill that protects girl's sports is pretty good political maneuvering, even most Republicans voted for it lol.

good on the Dems here, once again.

(It is so weird to say that).

Update for Newsom's bill signings today:

No signatures or vetoes on the 10 bills we reported on. However, he signed a bill that bans sex or gender discrimination in youth athletics that passed with bipartisan support.

I have honestly no clue how it impacts trans athletes, so don't ask me lol

I'm just one person, and my programming needs are somewhat unusual (building various kinds of statistical forecasting models). But I'm just not seeing the consistent productivity gains from LLMs that I would have expected if you'd asked me 6 months ago.
