I will believe in the end of identity politics when steel and lumber (28,000 jobs and 105,000 jobs respectively) stop getting bailouts, while higher education (310,000 jobs) collapses in front of our eyes because it's full of ivory tower elites

But is anyone going to hold Doug Ford accountable for the dismantling of our system? Of course not. All healthcare blame is to be directed to the federal government, because shut up.
“Ontario recorded the highest number of wait-list deaths: 10,634, including more than 9,100 diagnostic-scan deaths where patients died before reaching the point of receiving or being scheduled for surgery.”

Green: Municipalities have been downloaded with tax cuts. Material conditions in cities will worsen. Property taxes will be hiked to backstop deferred investments in local infrastructure and social services, and the astronomical costs of policing. It's a reaction to the failures of our governments.

For anyone who comes from even a semi-privileged background (like myself) one should have a great deal of self-awareness. Never having to worry about food or housing is a luxury most never get to enjoy. Ford has no such awareness and has always been unfit for public office.

the vast majority of authors are not rich y’all, we often work multiple jobs or rely on other people’s incomes because this industry pays us shit. i have three different contracts with three different big five publishers and i don’t make anything NEAR a living wage. but i do work seven days a week!🫠
I did a thread a few weeks ago of "authors link your stuff" & one of my author friends who is one emergency away from being homeless had a massive spike in downloads on Anna's Archive from people *who follow me* complaining about how they are poor & should be allowed to steal from other poor people

The government keeps catering to Pathways in every conceivable way, and I can't wait for them to just fold and start directly subsidizing them (beyond the tax credits they're already getting).
This is a stunning story. I've been tracking the "greenhushing" narrative for a while now: this is the idea that strict regulations on fake climate claims spooks companies into total silence; therefore we shouldn't regulate them.

Important not to overlook the fact that this bilge is amplified & disseminated by many prominent - and very real - racists who benefit financially, professionally & politically from the process.
Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

Neither Trump, nor half of his cabinet have “ancestors” who were in North America before the revolution. I’d guess that less than half of current US citizens do. “Your ancestors” is doing a lot of implicitly white Christian nationalist work here.

As our goaltending woes continue, we have symbols of hope for the future aside from Jacob Fowler.

Quentin Miller has become the new star goalie of Denver with an incredible .945 Save % through 11 starts. Among goalies with similar GP, he is No. 1 in the NCAA right now in that stat.
