Our plan went from about 2k a month—hellishly expensive enough—to almost 5k. (Yes, we’d be paying more than 50k a year if we kept the same plan). We’re hunting for other plans that will at least cover my oncologist.
KEEP SHARING YOUR STORIES about increased ACA premiums due to the disappearance of subsidies. The stories clearly are having an impact, they help people feel less helpless, and they create solidarity that leads to action.

Mine went from $395→ $821. What happened for you?

I love this idea:

“anytime a billionaire is asked for public comment on anything, someone with < $1,000 in the bank should get equal time to offer a rebuttal.”
In this week's newsletter I wrote about losing a parent (to bad politics) and good tv shows and the billionaires who pretend they're going to leave a city if their taxes go up by an amount that will never make their lives worse.

I love movies like Nobody or John Wick where a guy just staggers in and takes out a whole criminal organization in like a day.

Cause I just imagine a The Wire style task for waking up the next day to discover their years long case ended cause of like, a dog.

I decided to treat myself to just 2 fingers of bourbon before bed because I was leaning into cozy vibes. And I was like, oh there’s just a little bit left in the bottle, I can just top it off and finish the bottle.

Y’all it was so much more than I thought when eyeballing it.

For all the talk of Liam Hemsworth taking over as Geralt, I think the buried lede in the new season of the Witcher is Laurence Fishburne suddenly showing up.

Every entertainment news article covering Poker Face's cancellation seems to have run with the idea that Peter Dinklage would take over *as* Charlie Cale but the actual quote doesn't seem to support that as the case? I think the idea is a new actor would just play a new lie-detector?

For me off the top of my head is Nick Hornby’s ABOUT A BOY.

The scene where Marcus’ mum is crying at the breakfast table and the 12 year old boy has a whole running monologue in his mind that boils down to “oh no now it can happen anytime.”

Masterclass is using humor to emphasize sadness.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

and there’s nothing wrong with third-person narration!

but the metatextual way it tells its story blew my fuckin’ teenager mind and opened me to a world I didn’t even know could exist

We polled Indivisible members over the weekend on whether Dems should take a deal or keep fighting for the ACA subsidies. Results: 98.67% said keep fighting.

Dems who vote to surrender now are fracturing their own party in a way that will reverberate loudly in the primaries.
So Democrats get:

1. A CR that will prevent the GOP from facing the wrath of Americans for a shutdown over the holidays

2. A coupon for one (1) meaningless ACA vote that will fail

3. An end to the illegal RIF/SNAP moves that are already before the courts

Those all seem like wins for the GOP.
