Ex-Teen Vogue editor Elaine Welteroth: ‘The headlines implied I was a token black hire’
Welteroth was just 29 when Anna Wintour made her editor-in-chief. Months later, the magazine shut down. What did she do next?

They aren't afraid of Mamdani, they are worried about what he would unleash among VOTERS. That those voters would say: "actually, we're not buying this centrist bullshit you've been shoveling for decades, we want something else." That's what's being litigated in these Dem elites are worried essays.

i do think Dems should moderate on immigration in the sense that Dems should redesign our immigration policy to work like people think it works: you wait for a while (but not forever) to get into the country and then you wait for a while (but not forever) to become a citizen.

It's impossible to overstate how much of what ICE is doing on the ground reflects this completely preposterous conflation of hostile *speech* and hostile *conduct.*

The First Amendment protects—or, at least, is supposed to protect—the former up and until it's a "true threat," which none of this is.
From Bovino's deposition: (1) he calls protestors "violent" if they articulate views hostile to ICE, even if no violence is manifested; (2) he instructs his forces to attack and arrest protestors who express "hyperbolic comments," which is to say, criticism of ICE and Bovino.

He went back on a deal he announced YESTERDAY. Dems if you reopen the government this is entirely your fault.
NEW: Trump now says he will not pay food stamps in November, even though his admin told a court yesterday it would make partial payments. The benefits are once again in jeopardy, as officials are back at court, seeking to force the release of full aid.

This is just people fighting to control their workplace. It has nothing to do with the people, with voters, with policy.

Thank you.

Earlier this year, I met a Croatian journalist who was in the US doing a piece on America’s politics and I asked her what surprised her. And she said, “What you all call the far left is just being normal.”

Dick Cheney did more than anyone else to build up expansive and destructive executive branch powers in the wake of 9/11; he lived to see another president turn those same powers against his own daughter.

He should be a warning sign to the GOP today but too many of them are in the cult.

Bomb threats disrupting voting in New Jersey today, which has a competitive governor election.

As with LibsofTikTok and bomb threats to hospitals, the Online Right has seen they can do this to force closures.

Preview of 2026 midterms? Either way, states should be working on plans to deal with it.
If these are any of your senators, call them now.
More signs coming out this am and that moderate corporate Senate Dems are getting ready to surrender to Republicans based on getting a promise on a health care vote.

There’s only one way to explain why questions like “who do NYC voters like for mayor,” and “what do San Franciscans think about George Washington,” become national issues that define the Democratic Party, while genuine Republican extremism with national implications is glossed over as a local issue.
The whole state of Idaho banning all vaccine mandates should be bigger news! If you want your grandmother's nursing home or your daughter's day care to require nurses and teachers to vaccinate, you literally can't! None of them are allowed to require that.

The USDA is the fail safe for SNAP.

They have a contingency fund to ensure it’s covered in the event of a shutdown.

They’re refusing.

Grocery stores stepped up to try and help by offering discounts to any SNAP recipients and the USDA told them they had to stop.

Starvation as a policy choice.

Someone give Lex $2 million so they can launch a politics version of Teen Vogue. Do it now. No strings attached.
This sucks. I’m so sorry.

wow, if only there had been warning signs about his temperament before he was confirmed
Brett Kavanaugh's behavior during today's second oral arguments has been incredibly obnoxious and rude. He is so eager to kill a service member's lawsuit against a negligent government contractor that he keeps interrupting other justices, raising his voice, and getting emotional. Weird and erratic.

I know a lot of people are already spreading this info, but hoping to spread it a little further: donating to a food bank, food pantry, or food distribution mutual aid group is really important right now, as TFG and the fucking GOP are shutting down snap benefits on November 1. I'll link to a few

If there were a competent opposition party in this country, the only message we’d get is that a starving, desperate country where your only hope of safety is blind allegiance to a violent, capricious autocrat and prosperity exists for only his inner circle is what GOP governance looks like
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email
