Democracy is the way. Truth and justice matter.

Russia can end the war today by leaving Ukraine.

Less proud to be an American than I used to be. I really thought we were better than this.

Seems like a good day to revisit why I chose this screen name a little over seven years ago. A 🧵

It was about a week after Jamal Khashoggi was murdered, and the first time (that I know of) that Trump was asked about it.

Seizing Russian frozen assets is only about political will. All the other arguments are just about cowering the fact that the will is missing.

Just sent out this piece. The whole idea that Trump's sanctions on Russian oil were meant to hurt Putin is collapsing on all fronts. Indian and Chinese purchases are up and there are no secondary sanctions to be found. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

The free world, if it is to remain free, must stop taking Ukraine’s unbelievable bravery for granted!

By refusing to send a clear, unambiguous stop now signal, Europe and America create the very vacuum that keeps pulling Russian violence westward.

There's just too much cowardice, too much defeatism, excuses about not destabilizing Russia, a strong will among some to return to business as usual, the false idea that Russia cannot be beaten. Only Ukraine spills its blood. But Ukraine will eventually win because otherwise it will be exterminated.

The excuse for Europe not to support Ukraine with air and ground units was that Russia is a nuclear power. When it was clear Putin would not use nukes the excuse became any war with Russia is too risky. Now the front line is the frozen assets and now that's too risky for some too.

Jose’s legs were crushed & his family can’t contact him or ensure he’s getting medical attention.

Rodney Taylor has been held since March without access to his prosthetics.

Bayron Marin had his leg broken & was chained to a hospital bed under a fake name for 37 days
UPDATE: I've heard from Jose's family. He's apparently been transferred to an ICE detention center in TX, but it's been days since they've been able to speak with him.

He needs medical care and to be able to speak with his family and lawyer. This obscene cruelty helps no one.
You can hear Jose scream in excruciating pain as an ICE vehicle runs over his foot while he's being detained.

His family says Jose is a good man, with no criminal record, who works in roofing.

He needs to be released from detention to receive appropriate medical care.

BREAKING: Seattle Children's Hospital successfully fought this summer to get DOJ's invasive trans care subpoena quashed.

The Seattle court partially unsealed the case this week.

This was the fourth, previously sealed case mentioned in this recent Law Dork report: www.lawdork.com/p/judges-doj...

Judges Neomi Rao and Justin Walker of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit on Friday night blocked D.C. District Court Chief Judge James Boasberg from beginning his scheduled Alien Enemies Act case contempt proceedings next week.

It was, much too much, an echo of April.
Breaking: D.C. Circuit's Trump appointees again block Judge Boasberg's contempt inquiry
DOJ keeps going to the D.C. Circuit, where Trump appointees on the court have repeatedly stopped the district court's effort to hold the Trump admin accountable.

There are some prominent trump allies think this admin needs to be even more ruthless and not even wait for preemptive pardons. Top trump outside legal adviser Mike Davis tells us the Trump DOJ needs to just jail the Dems who would try to prove/charge Trump officials in the future, because per Mike…
“Since he was sworn back into office nearly a year ago, Donald Trump and several administration officials have already informally discussed the idea of preemptively pardoning an array of Trump advisers, policymakers, and others…

To give you a sense of how big a departure this year, the government doesn't do this for wanted criminals.
SCOOP: The Trump administration is providing the names of all travelers passing through U.S. airports to immigration officials in search of people with deportation orders, a substantial expansion of government efforts to draw on data to hunt down immigrants.

Democrats should commit now to not recognizing any pardons issued in advance of charges. Tell Trump administration officials that preemptive pardons will not be honored by a future Democratic administration and that criminals will be arrested.

Wow.
Researchers have built a prosthetic hand that, with the help of artificial intelligence, can act a lot more like a natural one. The key is to have the hand recognize when the user wants to do something, then share control of the motions needed to complete the task.

Dan Richman is a professor at Columbia Law School and a leading authority on criminal procedure—not exactly an ideal target for Fourth Amendment violations.

I’d love to see what his Crim Pro exam looks like this year.
NEWS: Dan Richman — key figure in now-dismissed Comey case — wins motion for return of materials seized from his devices.

Judge finds his rights were violated, orders that DOJ can only access data pursuant to lawful warrant.

Order could complicate efforts to re-indict Comey.

Really not sure why we want health insurance companies like this whose only goal is to make a profit off of our healthcare. Nobody but the insurance companies benefit from this, and we all get worse healthcare for more money.

Then GOP moderates rebelled, calling getting rid of the extensions “political shocked” and now they’re apparently going to vote on the new health plan *and* ACA extensions next week.

We’ll see.
