I fully agree with this, this was a complete security failure as Ilhan is one of the most vulnerable politicians to violent attacks. And I’ll also say that I get the feeling that Ilhan also wants people to know the full extent of who she is, a woman who will scrap and throw hands if she needs to.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said on Wednesday at a press conference that he supports disbanding the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group (SRG), the counterterrorism unit that carried out the first mass arrests of his administration on Tuesday evening during anti-ICE protests at a Manhattan hotel. Mamdani said he is in talks with police commissioner Jessica Tisch about how to disband the SRG “in ways that are operational,” without specifying any details. When asked about the operational costs of the SRG, Mamdani also said that he would not disband the SRG for budgetary reasons but to “decouple the counterterrorism responsibilities from within the department to police responses to First Amendment activity,” adding “We don’t believe there should be a unit that has both counterterrorism responsibilities and responsibilities to responding to protests.” Mamdani praised anti-ICE protesters, commending New Yorkers for drawing attention to “the horrific abuses of ICE across this country,” even as SRG continues to be deployed at protests.
