The reason it is so weird to me when people call Epstein et al “pedophiles” is that it positions what they were doing as some kind of taboo, unspeakable aberration and not the *exact* sort of thing that society has openly promised men they deserve once they get rich and powerful enough.

I know it’s been said a million times but it’s pretty funny how many short king steroid comedians with corny ass manchild tattoos called themselves free speech warriors right up until the moment free speech was actually under attack.

it’s not necessarily that all these people in the epstein files participated in the raping of girls it’s that none of them cared and if he hadn’t been arrested and died they’d still be out there trying to be his friend

While my sympathy is limited, a 23 year old tech nerd with likely no media experience giving cringey answers to the FT about working 90 hour weeks and eating steak is probably less deserving of our dunks than the billionaires and VCs that have convinced him this is how he must live to be valued.

the fact that the whole Republican party is so excited to be seen with Nicki Minaj now seems weird until you realize they're all just desperate weirdos who want people to think they're cool
Nicki Minaj warmly embraces Speaker Mike Johnson and he says “I almost wore this coat today, I’m so glad I didn’t.”

i think it's good that the fascists are getting so much practice facing the wall, it'll make things easier later
I'm starting to think the Trumpist mastery of propaganda is failing them. The DHS agents posing this way makes it look like they're ashamed of themselves.

I actually am curious to know what people think are the earliest video games that have a serious claim to being the best in their genre. Not like “good for the time,” but like genuinely better than anything else out there.

its really, lets say 'awkward', that every fucking "oopsie i voted for trump" article that gets pushed as an example of trump voters changing always glides over the trump voter's rabid hatred of gays and trans people that doesn't exactly tell me they're my future ally.

Rape is the core of the MAGA ideology, the metaphor of dominance and degradation that motivates all their actions, and their rhetoric descends very quickly from the symbolic register down into a literal one.

rape is a public good whose value is up for debate in bourgeois liberal society. who benefits when literally millions of hours of human life and emotional energy are wasted questioning the woman's humanity, so that no one comfortable ever has to draw a line on abuse? What is America without abusers?
it's a collective social ritual participating in the violation of a woman to death

In a strange position where I think there are massive, massive social harms to the proliferation of AI (misinfo, deepfakes, predatory 'companions', surveillance, labour rights) but also feel the mainstream arguments against it range from unconvincing (water) to actively harmful (copyright; "soul")

just remember that one day when there’s no consequences to calling a spade a spade, everyone will have been against this

i want you to remember the people who call for objectivity and neutrality while hundreds of innocent people are slaughtered only to claim they were against it 5 years from now

There’s also this fucking trope of “the dumb public want immediate results”. Firstly, if your entire campaign is based on the promise of change, that’s on you. Secondly, the public would be fucking delighted to have not had the immediate results of attacking the most vulnerable people in the country

i wonder if anyone is going to ask the other question: why are kids confiding in AI how they feel about *insert mental health topic* and not confiding in a real person? or are we just going to use this as another “AI bad” thing and move on?

getting rid of AI won’t fix the problems that got us here

This. Far too many people don't want to accept the fact racists, fascists, zionists, misogynists, transphobes, rapists, etc., actually WANT AND ENJOY to dehumanize, brutalize, abuse the people they harm.
"but have you considered that the people taking ICE jobs are poor and stupid?" seems to be a recurring theme in the replies. sigh.

the liberal mind cannot comprehend that racists' like racism and getting to violently enforce it for money is a win-win for the racists.
