An excellent story on the Bike Bus phenomenon via @wweek.com featuring @coachbalto.bsky.social and including a cameo by two podcasters on book tour.
Sam Balto Has Made Portland’s Bike Buses Famous. Can They Last?
The bike bus concept is gaining in popularity, and Portland is now home to about 25 bike buses. This is largely thanks to Sam Balto.

🗣️ "On foot I couldn’t get to school. With my bike, I’m planning university"

Pupils in rural Colombia faced a four-hour walk through the desert each day, leaving them too exhausted to learn. Bicycles have transformed their lives.

Sometimes I’m like “maybe I can tell my wife about online” and then I realize some of online is like “the Netflix comedy lady’s villain origin story is being furious at Jeopardy Sam for supporting building more housing” and then I’m like nah.
the left nimby crashout bc Zohran actually wants to build more housing is genuinely so funny

Just don’t fall for the local listserv duct-cleaning offer! 😂
This holiday season, let’s all shop local! OK, it’s a great idea year-round because:

Some of the best parenting advice I ever used was called The Pause. (It’s from bringing up Bebe originally but we adapted it a bit).

I realized today that though the advice is meant for babies, I still unconsciously use it when I’m doing some of my best parenting.

Every sidewalk bicyclist is a vote for safe and protected bike lanes.
my hot take as a full-time pedestrian and transit rider is that i want cities to do the absolute maximum amount to provide cyclists with safe and protected bike lanes everywhere so that i don't have to feel the least bit bad for kicking one off the sidewalk into the street
And before you say anything about Just Do More Public Transit, make your neighbors less fucking neurotic about funding and designing roads for public transit

Replace bike lane flex posts with bollards!

100% true!

On a bike, we're more equal as a family than in a car, where we, as parents, sit in the front seat and direct contact with our children in the back is much more superficial and functional.

Cycling together creates memories; driving together doesn't!
