No need to delay: Not only did the Board of Elections clearly state that they are ready and capable of implementing ranked choice voting, but the voters already told us how they "assessed the need" by overwhelmingly passing it at the ballot box.
NEWS: Ward 7 Councilmember Wendell Felder is introducing emergency legislation that would delay ranked-choice voting, which is currently set to be rolled out in D.C. in 2026. His bill would mandate that Board of Elections conduct an assessment on what it would need to implement RCV.

I thank the Mayor for her many years of service and leadership to our city. I know she loves DC – her commitment and dedication to her hometown are unquestioned. Public service can take everything you have to give, and I’m glad she’ll be able to enjoy more time with her family.

Last Friday, I spent some time with the people working behind the scenes at DC’s convention center. They shared that they are losing shifts, are understaffed, and need more investment for a safe workplace. Thanks to Unite Here for organizing and standing together for our workers.

Great morning volunteering at Food & Friends — fun and meaningful work helping get healthy food to neighbors living with life-challenging illnesses. They’ll also deliver 4,600 Thanksgiving meals this week!

Streateries news from @cmcharlesallen.bsky.social: “I'm drafting emergency legislation that wouldn't delay the rules but would make them more affordable and give restaurants more flexibility. We don't want to regulate streateries into oblivion”

Next DC Council leg meeting is on Dec. 2!

Huge thanks to Christine Spencer, GOOD Projects, and all the neighbors who turned out today at King-Greenleaf Rec Center to help bring a delicious Thanksgiving meal to the community! Glad I could help serve the line!

This holiday season, let’s all shop local! OK, it’s a great idea year-round because:

💵 Your dollars stay in the community
🤝 Real help > juggling apps
☠️ Fewer scams
🏡 Supporting our neighbors
♻️ Fewer deliveries = less packaging waste

It was a privilege to host Payne Elementary’s 3rd-graders for a tour of the Wilson Building! We talked about the branches of government, the role of a CM, and DC’s history & flag, and they caught part of a Housing Cmte hearing. We’re always glad to help spark civic engagement in the next generation!

If high electric bills already have you feeling the squeeze, I have bad news for you. Without a change from the nation’s largest grid operator, PJM, DC residents could pay $70 more per month over the next three years.

Today, the Cmte on Transportation & the Environment considered the Purple Heart License Plate Amendment Act, which would require the DMV to issue special license plates to Purple Heart award recipients. It was an honor to hear from people who served our country & proudly wear the Purple Heart.
