I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

Best TikTok thing going is the two dudes trying food from every country without leaving NYC. If you haven’t seen them yet, it’s incredible. My favorite so far is last week’s. Legit got me emotional.

The permitting reform “debate” is a sterling example of some misguided liberals inventing a reasonable conservative position to engage with that simply isn’t held by any conservatives with the power to implement it.

You see. Before he was the teacher in Spider-Man or the tornado hunter in Twisters — Tunde Adebimpe was the lead singer of one of the best band of the 2000s. You’d never think it now while watching Skeleton Crew, but that man brought the falsetto to Brooklyn.

I know, I know, tons of folks grew up in suburbs so have come to believe "that's just what people want." Fish/water etc.

But we really, actually outlawed urban growth in the ~ 1960s thru '80s and mandated suburbanization.

that is not the same as "what people want." It is "all that's on offer."

perhaps instead of cowering under a blanket labeled "health care," democrats should respond and advance on the issues that move people. this, of course, would require a foundation of conviction and principle, which may be asking too much of the party's leadership and strategists.

When e-bike/e-scooter rentals descended upon cities, politicians argued for speed governors on safety grounds, and in a number of cases forced companies to install them. That may have been the right call! But it highlights the obvious absurdity of allowing cars in cities without them.
My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area.

(15 in Manhattan btw)
There is no possible justification for limiting e-bikes to 15mph but not cars.

Trump’s latest climate rollback makes it all but official: The US is giving up on trying to stop the planet’s warming.

In some ways, the effort has barely started.

Trump is trying to kill the US climate effort. It was already in trouble.
Court rulings and the two Trump administrations have repeatedly derailed regulators' attempts to forestall rising temperatures, while scientists' warnings grow more dire.

I have to see those nasty little child beating natalist weirdos every two months and their big convention had like 200 people total
I think there's a lot of truth to this but it's also really important to observe that right wing protests do not have this problem. Even very small groups of right wing activists get widespread press attention (because the press likes Republicans and wants to help them)

Good. This isn't rhetoric or hyperbole: On the current trajectory there is simply no way the United States survives a full Trump term as any kind of recognizable liberal democracy. Thinking about how to beat him in 2028 is a waste of time; it will be too late by then.
It seems clear we are seeing the beginnings of a sustained mass protest movement to oust Trump.
