It's #givingTuesday -- may I suggest a donation to The Tributary? We've done some great work this year and we're entering 2026 with the same momentum + added coverage of Florida’s Capitol, statewide elections, the environment and Jacksonville City Hall.

Here's some of our work from 2025:

A nice overview of all the underhanded crap FPL has been involved in over the past number of years.
New | A federal appeals panel overturned a decision from U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon (yes, that Aileen Cannon) and resurrected an investor lawsuit accusing FPL of securities fraud, potentially re-opening old wounds from a sprawling series of controversies.

Among the many reasons it’s important for young reporters to get a turn in truly local journalism (made difficult today given the near-extinction of high-end, county-level journalism) is because local newspapers hold their reporters to much higher standards than a lot of national outlets.
I think @dinfontay.com summed up the moral fracture in journalism really well: “I feel cliché referencing George Carlin, but after a week like this what else can you say? There is a big club, and we aren't in it.”
Moral rot in elite journalism is killing the whole field
The Nuzzi/RFK Jr. mess and the revelation of Esptein's journo pals lay bare a profound moral absence at the heart of our free press.

Yes, you can wear anything. There is no law about uniforms. Departments make them up. This has always been true, but many counted on tradition or discretion to keep it in check.

Turns out, law enforcement officers don't have nearly as many rules as some people think!
This article is crazy-making. Basically, they can wear anything. There is no uniformity, there is no consistency. Some rando in camo could be a government employee, there is no way of knowing.

Jacksonville Sheriff's officers inconsistently report when they've injured civilians, thanks in part to a vague use-of-force policy.
