The deportation order is based on Vedam’s conviction for murder—a crime he did not actually commit and for which he’s now been wholly exonerated. He entered the US at 9 months old and was a legal permanent resident before his conviction. We are so, so, so far from the light of justice.

After spending 43 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, evidence hidden by the prosecution reversed his conviction. Rather than finally enjoying freedom, ICE abducted him for deportation

Depraved.

Just about everyone vulnerable has been told to stay inside. There are literally hundreds of trained emergency response people on the streets of the 1.8 sq mile neighborhood. ICE is driving through alleys looking for anyone who’s brown

This is Fugitive Slave Act stuff + foreign occupation

Caitlin Flanagan is what, lol?

Girl, post whatever you want defending Weiss, people who have different opinions didn't have a home visit from the thought police--they just see Weiss for the hypocritical, grifting amoral emptiness she is. Oh, and she's a terribly mediocre writer.

Ratio me. Please. It's a badge of honor. If you don't like a link, go follow some chicken-heart who needs the approval of the thought-police. Caitlin Flanagan of @theatlantic.com is a tremendous writer and this piece is an excellent read. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Also, using “thought police” to describe the *critics* of someone who literally launched her career by trying to police the thoughts of her pro-Palestinian professors at Columbia is AMAZING

I know it's basically just bait so whatever but if you use "thought police" unironically you should be forced to sit in a corner without your phone for a full hour

Yes, Jenkins, she is the veritable Lance Armstrong of journalistic integrity. Great analysis.

This is really smart. Amazed at the hysteria over the ascendance of a woman entrepreneur who clearly knows how to cover and sell news and who's not afraid to take on a mob. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

“I spent three nights and three days in federal custody. During that time, I was never told what I was charged with, was not allowed to shower despite being covered in tear gas and pepper spray, had no phone call to my family, and no access to an attorney.” - George Retes, U.S. citizen and veteran.
I’m a US citizen and a veteran. ICE arrested me for no reason.
Jailed for three days without an explanation or ability to notify anyone, George Retes argues the only path to healing starts with the government taking accountability for its actions.

a key thing about vought — and all of these guys — is that they have a totally top down and hierarchical vision of the world. they believe that the cultural changes they hate can be turned off by destroying the federal government because they can’t imagine that they emerged bottom-up in society

What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.

The RIFs that began Friday will reportedly cut 65% of CISA’s 2,540 employees, one of the dumbest and most dangerous moves imaginable. CISA defends the nation’s cyber and critical infrastructure. Destroying it now only makes sense if you’re afraid of election integrity.

500 hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics are at risk of closing because of the Trump-Republican big, ugly bill. Many are in rural areas.

Meanwhile, Republican-held US House districts and states Trump won in 2024 rely more on ACA coverage.

They're selling out their own voters.
