I used to handle interlibrary loans for a public library. ILL is a magnificent expression of the idea that readers deserve books, and books deserve readers. It’s libraries everywhere pooling their resources for the benefit of everyone.

Killing IMLS could have killed ILL.

This is great news. 📚

Art is an act of hope. Writing is an act of rebellion. The world will always need more stories--from real human beings, not bullshit plagiarism machines. Every book is a love story from the author, and every reader is fighting the war against cruelty, ignorance, and hopelessness. We are fighting.

There are specific qualities that made something a "scholar stone" & they vary by culture.

The Japanese preferred rocks that resembled landscapes. The Chinese liked rocks that gave a resonant tone when struck. Korean rocks were sometimes carved with inscriptions.

But they all had to be /cool/.

Santa Fe is now the first city to tie the minimum wage to the cost of rent.

The Santa Fe City Council voted to raise its minimum wage from $15/hr to $17.50 by 2027 — but they also added another provision.

Future increases will factor in inflation, and the price of housing.

So, after thinking and thinking and thinking about it (and finding metal shavings in our greens...) we decided to splurge on really good herb grinders. After a lot of research, the spouse found the Flower Mill.

They can grind up to 3.5g; inside is all stainless steel; various options for coarseness

I don't know who said writers aren't meant to be political but the fact of the matter is that writing has been political as long as we've had it. Who can write, what stories get told... Like, read the room. And maybe a few more books.

Okay, trans Bluesky, help a girl out. I need all the weird noisy music by trans people I can get in my ears, for reasons.

Folk-punk, noise, death metal, genres I've never heard of, if it's by a trans person, please throw it at me. Thanks in advance!
