We had congressional hearings when parents just suspected heavy metal was leading some kids to suicide.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides
Adam Raine’s life hurtled toward tragedy soon after he began talking with ChatGPT about homework. Analysis of his ChatGPT account shows how the chatbot became a confidant as he planned to end his life.

And Southampton Dock... I cannot listen to this album without tears coming to my eyes.

They disembarked in '45
And no one spoke and no one smiled
There were too many spaces in the line

They gathered at the cenotaph
All agreed with hand on heart
To sheath the sacrificial knives

And where is the profit in that? It's all about the $$$
Not to be controversial but I think we should use tools and resources to make people's lives less miserable instead of more

The US banks want nothing to do with propping up Argentina’s economy. The country has defaulted on its sovereign debt nine times. Yet we entered into a “currency swap” for their pesos that we will never get back.

The finale of the great TV comedy show Blackadder goes Forth.
Back then I didn't expect one of the funniest programmes ever to end with a scene that makes me cry every time I see it.
Every single time.

When I worked in a Teesside College there were many Muslim students. They sent Christmas cards and were active participants in college Xmas functions.

New York in the late 1970s was a much better setting for movies than now. It was gritty, grimy, and violent. New York has been beautified and has so much less crime it's hard to suspend disbelief when movies pretend it's a hell hole.

One of the biggest losses in the UK has been our newspaper industry. Once the envy of the world, even when Murdoch owned most of it, now 95% is little more than dirt cheap, right-wing ragebait. Hard to believe that The Times was once called "The Thunderer".

Without a well resourced and skilled Civil Service the country would descend into anarchy within a fortnight, sure it can always do things better but this myth that politicians pedal that you can massively cut it and still get everything done is just a lie.

The most frustrating thing about the climate crisis is that we have a lot of the solutions already, they just need implementing at scale, and the only thing that's stopping that happening is the fact that it would make a few very rich people a bit less rich
