1 in 10 women have experienced stalking, sexual assault or relationship abuse in the past year alone, according to the ONS. The government has set itself the mission of halving that figure in a decade. To do so, we have to make sure women’s voices are heard. (1/2)

Expanding free school meals is an anti-poverty, pro-learning, properly Labour policy.

We're setting up children to give school everything they've got, no matter their background.

Passionate in her beliefs. Fiercely loyal to her friends. Never afraid to let you know exactly where she stood. The best.

Fun Fact: I remember arguing with her over which of us hated Piggy the most. I was sure I did. She disagreed. It remains unresolved...
Carrie Fisher was the blueprint.

In the end, when I walked from my X account, the waves of racists and bots that were always invoking the same phrases and talking points made it clear that the thing was just a hall of mirrors, that it had been crudely rigged for political fraud. Never thought Musk would admit it all in a self-own.

Sometimes I think about how many people were convinced that the Vice President of the United States lost the presidential election because she didn’t contort herself to do this show.

If it’s true it says a lot about this country.
Everything about this might be the saddest thing I’ve ever seen

I think the reason Trump is so bad at peace making is he can't understand why people fight wars - because he can't comprehend why people are willing to die for a cause greater than themselves. He doesn't get why an (apparently) weaker party (eg Ukraine) won't just concede (eg give up the Donbas).
A US framework to end war in Ukraine would leave it more vulnerable to Russian aggression, if it restricts Kyiv's army, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen warned today.

Allowing Russia to change borders by force or letting Moscow veto Kyiv’s future membership in the EU are red lines, Brussels warns.

It's also vastly easier and cheaper for media outlets to produce culture war content than policy stuff.

With policy, you have to find actual experts that are available and willing, then pray they're good entertaining communicators.

On culture shit, you start with a talking head and work backwards.
This chart (which applies even more to social media than it did to TV) lives in my head rent free.

Social media enveloping traditional media means everything and everyone is now competing in the entertainment market. Boring stuff like policy that affects millions of lives doesn’t stand a chance.

1. The X location tool is unreliable
2. There’s been *loads* of reporting that major MAGA accounts were overseas already. Like, nice you noticed now, but people worked *hard* to warn you.
