The reason social media is impossible really for political debate is that facts are taken completely out of context to fit a simple and narrow narrative.

It is why debate is so poor and why populists prefer soundbites to policy.

Worth repeating again,

The majority of unions involved in negotiations, alongside business, have welcomed this compromise by the Government.

Of course the media understandably focus on small number on the left who oppose this. It generates clicks.

Unite opposes everything government does now.

A small number of Labour MPs appear completely uninterested in governing & the compromises that demands. It is frankly ridiculous to oppose a small sensible compromise that is backed by the TUC to get the historic Employment Rights Bill on the statute book.

Also suggests, when you look at the measures in isolation, most of them are very popular.

Let the right wing press bleat on about a mansion tax. It highlights where their priorities are.
A mansion tax is one of the most popular things that Labour has done - 67% in favour, 19% against.

The ‘probation period’ for workers has been shortened from 2 years to 6 months.

This is progress.

Yes, the manifesto pledge was from day one but it was clearly going to fail in the Lords.

The Government has taken a pragmatic and progressive approach.

6 months is perfectly reasonable.
Government waters down landmark workers' rights bill in U-turn

It will no longer include protections for all workers against unfair dismissal from the first day in their job. The promise was included in Labour's election winning manifesto.

So they wanted net migration significantly reduced.

That has now happened, but because it happened under Labour, it is bad?!

Yes, a lot of this is down to James Cleverly's policies before election.

Which proves my point. If Tories were still in power, the Daily Mail would welcome this news.

The UK, where the day after a decision to take half a million children out of poverty, the media & political world has been full of sneering at those same children & their families, labelling them as ‘Benefits Street’, while the same people are moaning about a tax on £2m mansions. Shameful stuff.

Removing the two-child limit accounts for less than 1 per cent of social security bill. To remove 450,000 children out of poverty, that's pretty good return on investment.

70% of the additional spending from removing the two-child limit will go to families who are in work. This is targeting support for low-income working households who are being priced out of a decent standard of living despite doing everything asked of them.
