We offen think that we’re the only one struggling, even if we know logically it’s not true.

But the moment we enter a space and speak that idea aloud, the whole room nods.

This is why community matters - not for inspiration, not for free therapy, but for recognition.

What if we began some of our classroom thinking not about how to surveil and enforce compliance, but how to incentivize and build trust?

One of the most liberating things I've ever done was decide that I'm done writing stuffy academic prose. I'm far more interested in letting my authentic writer's voice shine through anything I write. And that's why, on a Saturday night, I was JOYFULLY writing a short paper for my just-for-fun class.

It's just completely heartbreaking on every single level that this headline exists in the richest country in the world/history. 😭💔

It's objectively an offensive move to have a conference app with a section on "inclusion" that includes lorem ipsum text and nothing else. Like just leave it off, mmkay? Nobody made you make that choice.

Email the president a picture of your outfit everyday to check if it’s in compliance with ‘gender’ expectations
If you have tenure at Texas A&M and aren't maliciously emailing the president a dozen times every day to ask if you can say this or you can say that, then what's the point in having tenure?
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Texas A&M adopts policy requiring professors to get OK from school president to discuss certain race and gender issues.

This research is fascinating. Often to the detriment of their career progression, autistic colleagues (and myself) are frequently constitutionally unable to witness deviation from procedure or inefficient processes without pointing it out.

Trivial example: I report every typo in kindle books.
Autistics (vs non-autistics) "are less likely to make errors in self-assessments of their cognitive performance"? onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/... "findings provide valuable insights into both the cognitive strengths of autistic individuals and the mechanisms underlying metacognitive biases"
Reduced Susceptibility to the Dunning–Kruger Effect in Autistic Employees
Evidence indicates that autistic individuals are less susceptible to social influence and cognitive biases than non-autistic individuals. However, no studies have been conducted on the Dunning–Kruger....

I'm routinely asked to send my SSN in emails, along with my full name and birthday. Including, notably, by my congressman's staff in their DC office when we requested a White House tour many years ago. 🤦🏻‍♀️👀
As a tax man who works with high net worth individuals, I am routinely asked, and after that demanded, to send non-password protected full tax returns via email

I am simply unwilling to rely on these black boxes to generate anything on my behalf or for my use, nor am I willing to feed it my thinking or writing in service of unstated goals and potentially immoral uses. Some of the generative AI tools out there are potentially useful, sure, but at what cost?
