Here's one of Alice Wong's pearls of Activist Wisdom from Year of the Tiger: "Make your shit as accessible as possible from the outset & keep refining your practices as you learn & grow."

All eyes on Georgia & Tennessee (& @taniel.bsky.social's feed).
Y'all got this.
JUST IN: we have the early vote from Roswell, Georgia.

GOP Mayor Kurt Wilson trails Dem challenger Mary Robichaux, 58% to 42% so far.

That's out of 8,949 votes counted. In November, the early vote was roughly half of the ballots, and (as you'd expect), the GOP was stronger on Election Day.

Notable that 9 deans at UVA have asked BoV to pause selection of 10th pres. They write, "Among the reasons for mistrust are concerns about an appointment of a new pres w/inadequate vetting & due diligence & w/o a clear foundation of institutional legitimacy."

The deans said that naming a president should be paused until the Board can establish the “conditions of trust” necessary for the next president to succeed.

Yes. “Unfair advantage” is being wielded by powerful people & interests against less powerful & vulnerable people. This power play connects attacks on DEI, trans folks, & disabled people.
We need to be able to see that the line "accommodations have gone too far" is an expression of the ableist notion that disabled students do not belong in higher ed. Its fundamentally an anxiety about the fact that disabled students get an "advantage" over abled students.

Noticed this too & have replied to @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social before to encourage use of alt text. I’ve been rereading Alice Wong’s Year of the Tiger & she says it best, “Make your shit accessible” by using plain language, image descriptions, transcripts, live caption. #CripTheVote
all the @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social replies are asking his team to go back to using alt text (which they did during the election, but abruptly stopped)

Lovely, flowing move from back to front for the USWNT, but, wow, Italy not offering any resistance at all. Caught spectating.

From WHAT'S LEFT IS TENDER: a poem in honor of my former partner who passed from AIDS-related opportunistic infectons and in gratitude of the AIDS poets who shaped so much of my formation as a gay man and poet. Monette taught me about the power of queer anger, and it has suffused my work.

Critical & devastating work by @thrasherxy.bsky.social & Afeef Nessouli documenting what they call the "racialized LGBTQ+ employment crisis for front-line Black & brown workers" in HIV prevention & care globally. #WorldAIDSDay #IllnessPolitics

By the first World AIDS Day of his second term, Trump gutted LGBTQ+ employment globally and put humanity at greater risk of AIDS.

For World AIDS Day, ACT UP New York has created posters as part of their Healthgate campaign, which capture the deadly consequences of creepy RFK Jr as head of HHS.

One question Glück explores in  About Ed  is how to write aboutness—a quality that combines nearness with a certain imprecision.

World AIDS Day. We remember.

This book by Megan Burke might be a good place to start.

Highly recommend Megan Burke’s BECOMING A WOMAN: SIMONE DE BEAUVOIR & THE POLITICS OF TRANS EXISTENCE. Burke draws on Beauvoir’s existentialist ethics of ambiguity to argue for trans first-person authority (trans FPA) & the “commitment to gender self-determination” as social practices.

We're talking existentialist bad faith here & Simone de Beauvoir's The Second Sex especially.

On World AIDS Day, reposting this piece on David Wojnarowicz, politics, & gestures that draws on one of my snapshots of illness-thought-activism in time in my book Indirect Action.

Also, to be clear, when a trans instructor at OU is being punished and targeted for quite fairly grading a terrible essay, it’s bizarre to see academics online debating the rubrics.

That’s…not the problem.

So much bad faith here, on the part of the student & the university.
OU has put the professor here on administrative leave:

In my book Illness Politics and Hashtag Activism, I write about the #MillionsMissing protests as demonstrating, quoting Judith Butler in Notes Toward a Performative Theory of Assembly, "what it means to mobilize vulnerability in concert." #NietHersteld does this too.
