I'm just saying, I think you all underrated Alex Garland's Civil War in any number of ways.
As someone who has been playing their games for 25 years since Shogun, the Total War showcase was awesome.

When Admiral Alvin Holsey abruptly resigned in October, everyone suspected it was a purge. Now we know why: Hegseth had asked the top Admiral to resign after months of discord over the legality of the boat strikes in the Caribbean. www.wsj.com/politics/nat...

City Elf HoF: Revenge.

Hawke: Not religious. Believes in the 3 Fs - family, friendship and financial security.

Inquisitor Trevelyan: Fervently devout Andrastian. Completely believes herself to be the Herald of Andraste. Doubles down after the Fade.

Human LoF Rook: Andrastian, not very observant.

Half way through Death by Lightning and it's gloriously entertaining. The characters are all wonderfully drawn, the writing is funny and poignant, the editing is so sharp!

Already dying to dive into the history of the period and figures like Garfield and Arthur.

Ok this is a must read, couldn't put it down.
Police spent more than 50 days searching a lake for Ryan Borgwardt, a kayaker they assumed had drowned. Then they told his wife that they’d come to believe something different. Jamie Thompson spoke with the people involved in the case that rattled a Wisconsin town. theatln.tc/EpGemzk9

The “deal” deprives Ukraine of everything it has won by withstanding Russian aggression and defending the borders of Europe.

It rewards Russian lawlessness—and makes America complicit in the lawlessness.

It’s the end of post WWII American power.

They like Trump and want to help him
I checked the Times on my phone this morning before the Nuzzi piece dropped. I had to scroll past 9 full screenshots worth of headlines - not counting large ads - before getting to the first Epstein headline. Zelensky's alleged corruption was treated as far more important than Trump's.

"Never talk to outsiders about what insiders say or do"

Summers treated Epstein as a fellow insider, even sharing views he did not want spread outside the relationship. He's absolutely guilty af.
Elizabeth Warren and Yanis Varoufakis have each written of meeting Summers for the first time and him posing a specific, pretty odd question. I wonder how many of your scores of equally unimpressive people who wrote pieces defending him have gotten the same question and answered him differently.

It's not hard to figure out what the @nytimes.com ownership and editors care about and believe, we're just all supposed to pretend otherwise because they've convinced you that being willfully stupid is an important journalistic norm.
and that can be true! but then you open the actual newspaper and it's soft-focus profiles of Chris Rufo, a frenzied transphobic crusade, an all-out effort to get the first Black woman president of Harvard canned over bullshit, Get Zohran, etc etc

This might even be true of this specific team but it’s obviously not true of the NYT at large. Trump’s extensive involvement with Epstein has been known for years and has always been downplayed by this newspaper
I was at NYT for 7 years & one of a dozen reporters who investigated Epstein’s interactions w/the rich & powerful. I don’t know every conversation held at every level there, but I do know we dedicated ourselves to exposing those who supported Epstein & engaged in the abuse of girls he facilitated

More than anything else, powerful men - like the ones who run the NYT - believe in the legitimacy of power itself. Because if it isn’t legitimate, they have to start asking hard questions about the world and themselves.

What the Epstein files show is the *solidarity* of many men-across class, race, religion, profession & party affiliation-in the global political project of keeping the boot on women's necks.

People have no problem understanding class solidarity among the rich. Why can't they see gender solidarity?
Like I dunno, maybe the reason it took a lady to break open the story of all the men protecting the dude trafficking underage girls is because the male journos were all emailing him making jokes about it?

Take some time to read this thread if you can. The depravity and explicit racism of removing this memorial can't be overstated.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️
