@frenchdipset on twitter. Haven’t written a bio in like 8 years so let’s come back to this.
It’s yet another artifact of the reality that you can’t win a Republican primary anymore without catering to (or personally being a member of) the lunatic fringe. 2015-2020, the lunatic fringe was very into Pizzagate and QAnon, so a lot of Republicans just reflexively repeated their Epstein shit
Will always be puzzled as to why Republicans hammered so hard on the Epstein stuff given that it was obvious that it would be a huge risk for their own guy

Trump and Epstein were buddies throughout the height of his trafficking -- what did they think would happen?

I haven’t seen reporting to this effect, but I really wonder if “we have to preserve the filibuster” was a primary factor in the decision to cave. As in: these Senators know Ds likely to win back the Senate soon, and want to have the filibuster there to give an excuse why progressive leg can’t pass

This sounds like an absolute fucking nightmare to deal with

Honestly, a thing I have been wondering about is if Netanyahu actually will come in order to provoke a crisis. Would NYPD follow an order to arrest Netanyahu, even if it meant overcoming armed resistance from Netanyahu’s security forces? What if Trump deployed US soldiers to protect him?
So I guess Netanyahu wont be visiting New York anymore?

“Let us use mRNA vaccines and you won’t have to buy sunbutter for your kids anymore” is the kind of message that could break MAHA within a month

There’s almost nothing I want more than a Democratic Party that is actually like the one that exists in Republicans’ imaginations
Johnson: "If they had no filibuster, they would pack the SCOTUS. You'd go from 9 to 17 or however many liberals they could pack. You would make DC & Puerto Rico into states, which would give 4 additional Democrat senators & make us a permanent minority. You'd see massive restrictions of 2A rights"

I still get absolutely blown away every time I am reminded of how little white collar professionals get paid in the UK. Doesn’t matter how many times I see it, totally flabbergasting every time.

Tie game, bases loaded, bottom of the ninth, Game 7 of the World Series, at home. Literally the situation you spend your entire childhood pretending to be in. Unbelievable.

Boy if “My baby is currently healthy, therefore I don’t need to take precautions to keep her from getting sick later” isn’t the tidiest summation of American idiocy I’ve seen in a minute
How are people so stupid. "she's healthy" so therefore, she will never get sick?? what

YIMBYism is weird because the big picture goals of density, affordability, walkability, etc are all obviously good but then you stumble into a thread of them yelling about how it’s bad that a university isnt allowed to shove its students into windowless boxes anymore and it’s like who are you people

If we’re ever going to have rule of law in this country again, Hegseth and the whole rest of the chain of command involved in these strikes need to be charged with murder and jailed for life.
SecDef announcing another (9th) lethal strike, again in the Pacific against an unspecified "designated terrorist organization."

Claims these "DTOs are the 'Al Qaeda' of our hemisphere.

Nope.

No armed attack on US like 9/11.

No AUMF.

No armed conflict.

Just more lawless premeditated killing.

The Celtics’ Heroes Among Us thing is so great man. Especially when it’s honoring random citizens who have found themselves in a bad situation and done the extraordinary. Every time I go to another team’s game I’m shocked they don’t have a similar ceremony

Feel like we could have been spared a lot of tiresome discourse the past couple days if the Platner oppo dump had simply led with the nazi tattoo. Lot of his defenders sound like they just got in the habit of defending him on the other stuff and now feel they can’t back down w/o losing face

It’s cool how we’ve created a system that has both funneled world-historic levels of wealth to many of the dumbest people alive and also told those same fucking dunces that they are omni-capable geniuses who can and should dominate any conceivable human endeavor as soon as it passes their fancy
The only thing that anyone ever needs to know about Bill Ackman is that he once joined a group of avid long distance bikers from NYC to Montauk and back without training or preparation, arrogant in his ability to "lead the pack" and ended up screaming in agony

But of course it is impossible for the industry to be “normal” about LLMs, because if they’re not going to completely change the world, there is no way to justify the billions and billions in investment capital it is taking to train and run these things.
More than *anything* the people who actually know how technology works, who actually build things, wish that people would treat LLMs like every other technology, and be normal about them. Don't build a religion about them, don't force them on people, don't ignore the problems. Just be normal.

“Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ” goes insanely hard, you see why these people ran the world for like 1300 years
Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

Hmmm, maybe it actually wouldn’t be a good idea to encourage people to stake their retirements on the purely speculative asset class with no underlying cash flows that can and regularly does see its prices crash by up to 100% in a single day for any or no reason

Besides linking Tylenol in pregnant women to autism, RFK Jr. now says circumcision is part of the reason why kids are autistic.

"Children who are circumcised early have double the rate of autism, and it's highly likely because they're given Tylenol. None of this is positive..."

Imagine if health care was just something everyone had, and not a zero sum competition between "good" people and "bad" people
Mike Johnson: "If you're a young, pregnant American citizen women who shows up in an ER and you get treated and they pay the hospital less for treating you than some illegal rabble rouser who came in from some South American country to do us harm, that is wrong."
