This whole thread, but if you wanna understand why police in the US are especially awful, this is a big piece of the puzzle (along with qualified immunity and their origins as slave catchers).

Building a well-paying career takes time. Always has for all but the most privileged. What's missing today in the US are unions, along with affordable college, housing, and medical care.
