Hi, I’m Lark! You may remember me from such companies as Twitch or GameSpot. I like video games, technology, product management, and derangement.

Becoming a parent in 2024 meant playing fewer games (and finding even less time to write about them), but here’s a thread of games I did play that I enjoyed, in no particular order

Right now, Democrats have the power to defund and abolish ICE. We should do it. This is about right and wrong—and the murder we are seeing on the streets is just plain wrong. Anyone who supports funding DHS and ICE is supporting the murder of Americans. We can stop this.

Graham objected to unanimous consent.

And he blocked the business of the Senate.

Any Senate Democrat could do this.
NO SENATE VOTE TONIGHT

Couldn’t get all senators to allow a speedy vote. Schumer tells reporters Lindsey Graham is blocking it. “That’s the holdup,” Schumer tells reporters. Graham wants to keep a provision letting him sue to pocket $500,000 over J6 phone records seized.

Hey @schumer.senate.gov and @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social someday we're gonna find out all the horrifying details that we don't yet know about the camps ICE is sending people to and it's gonna be on you. Chuck might be dead because he's old but Hakeem is gonna be around to see it.

Memory is a fragile thing in this moment, so it is important to keep in mind that Hakeem Jeffries refused to whip his caucus against ICE funding earlier this week.

This is not a dunk whatsoever, but I wholeheartedly disagree with the first sentence. I'm old enough that a friend in my K class got polio and she ended up in a wheelchair for life. I think not vaccinating is akin to neglect like not feeding or clothing a child. And yes I have a kid.
I do think parents should absolutely have the right to choose not to vaccinate their kids.

I also think schools, sports teams, and other clubs or activities should absolutely have the right to exclude those who don’t want to participate in keeping these communities safe by getting vaccinated.

These parents killed their child and we need to say it
“The vaccination has stuff we don’t trust,” said the father of the 6-year-old girl who died of measles. In March, Tom Bartlett wrote about his visit with a family confronting an unthinkable tragedy.

Snakes on a Plane midnight screening. People dressed up. There were multiple fake snakes of varying sizes and at least one model of a 747 being thrown around the room. When the iconic line was spoken by Samuel L. Jackson, everyone joined in and cheered.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

The model of holding individual senators responsible is broken here. The retirees clearly agreed to take the fall. Which is why the nos should get no credit for voting no unless they move to oust Schumer

seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

This deal to reopen the government is fucking disgraceful.

Tens of millions will lose their healthcare. Trump will be emboldened.

This is exactly what’s wrong with Democratic Party leadership and why we need more people in Congress who will actually hold the line.

Some children’s songs are really fucked up if you think about them. Hush Little Baby, depending on your interpretation, is about an irresponsible parent gifting increasingly unhinged things that often don’t work well or in some cases aren’t even authentic to an infant
