There seems to be a pretty huge disconnect between tech people & the rest of society regarding AI. I know VERY FEW people outside of that sector who find it useful & use it regularly, and most people I know hate how it's getting shoved down our throats, & breaking things that used to be useful

This also applies to the concept of “running the government like a business” as a neutral good and typically an excuse for privatization. If I was a CEO and spun off a bunch of core operations to middlemen who did a worse job for more money I would get fucking fired
the point here is that under capitalism competition is supposed provide the pressure to succeed. doesn’t always work but it is there. when the government is doing it alone able management is far more critical, not least on political grounds in our current moment

This is called “chain refoulment” and it’s illegal under both U.S. and international law. And the State Department and ICE know very well what Ghana is doing and simply don’t care.
ICE deported a woman who owned a home in the US for 30 years. A judge banned ICE from deporting her to Sierra Leone where she had been tortured, so it deported her to Ghana, which kidnapped her and sent her back Sierra Leone anyway. ICE is part of this illegal conspiracy.
