Starmer pushing to water down the European Convention on Human Rights on International Human Rights Day is no different from the right wing media saving up all their hatchet jobs for Transgender Day of Visibility or Pride etc. It's cynical and nasty.

The delay is dreadful. But the ministers who might work on it have either been purged or have resigned in protest, so it’s hardly surprising.
We were promised a draft bill on banning conversion practices by the end of 2025 and it's mid-December with no movement.

This government *must* commit to a trans-inclusive ban, especially following a report by the BBC into practices fifty years ago.

Vile when some people don't have a safe route to flee from the utter detestation & brutality of war.

It's all grim enough without the Labour Government pushing further misinformation.

Looking at the papers and broadcast media today having read the press summary of the Sandie Peggie judgment is wild.

They either haven’t read it or are lying about it.

And then people wring their hands about trust in institutions or bemoan people resorting to social media for news.

And the BBC calls Dr Beth Upton a "biological male."

This is like continuous deadnaming under the guise of informing and uses an expression tat could equally be applied to a single celled protozoan.
I can't help but remember that "it" is also the word used by the man who murdered poor Brianna Ghey in a transphobic attack.

These people don't have "reasonable concerns" - they are revolting bigots.

My thread earlier focused on the discussion re. FWS - but I just want to draw this out really explicitly:

The press absolutely monstered Dr Beth Upton in the most appalling way – only for the Tribunal to find that Beth had done nothing wrong, but that Sandie Peggie had harassed her.
Also worth noting, the Tribunal found that Sandie Peggie had harassed Dr Beth Upton in a "hate incident".

Read the papers/listen to the BBC & the SPeggie case was a 3-0 “win” to the transphobes.

Read the actual judgement & it was a 10-1 win for trans people.

Look at the wider implications & the transphobes’ expansive interpretation of the Supreme Court misjudgment took a real kicking.

This is delicious. Forstater basically comes across as insufferably opinionated with delusions of expertise. Her attempts to pass off Sex Matters research as credible evidence is recognised as unreliable and roundly dismissed.
Oh this was good.

"Whilst the claimant argued that Ms Forstater was not presented as an expert witness, in our view that is
essentially what she was doing. She was giving evidence on matters of opinion dressed up as matters of fact."

Read the ruling and you'll find that the tribunal found Beth Upton to be calm and largely credible, and they accepted her account of the 2023 incident concluding that Peggie had deliberately engineered a confrontation, and had, in fact, harassed Upton.

There were no other complaints.
